94???? legacy ts type r

Recommended Posts

Hey there i have a subaru legacy type r sedan.......E-bd5 chassis and ej20 non turbo

It is basically the same as the 94 gt but without the turbo..

I would like to change my manual 5 speed gearbox as its on its way out but cant find any info about interchanging parts on the ts-r at all let alone what i can use as i want something stronger... anyone out there have any info at all... my regostration of the car says its a 1994 but the little info i find says these are a bd5 and a 1993... if anyone knows about these models or interchangable parts please let me know..thanks in advance

generally speaking, all 5 speeds are the same. subaru is way too small a car company to have a different trans for each model. you just have to match the clutch , push vs. pull, and the final drive ratio. all ej engines will bolt up to all ej trans. so unless you have some odd 5 speed there will be lots to choose from.

if you had an ordinary legacy / liberty then the answer would be pretty easy. but your info is foreign to me.

what is a TSR?

jdm is Japanese Domestic Market.

the ej20 engine was never offer in the US in the legacy (neither was the ej18, only the ej22 and the ej25 in the 90s) and i think only in the WRX impreza with the turbo. and rumor has it that you, asia?, got a dual range 5 speed with some of your legacys which we never saw. which is a real drag.

so let's start over, legacy ej20 w/ a 5 speed, wagon or sedan?

92 - 93 body style or 96 - 98 body style?

(i think your part of the world got the new styles, new engines, a year before the US. so your 94 may look like our 95.)

It really is Legit. This guy just really doesn't know how to speak (or this case, type) properly and didn't take more than 30 seconds to explain anything. A TS-R is basically like a GT (not GT-B), but without the turbo. It even looked exactly the same, with the exception of the headlights. They weren't projectors. This is why we randomly see JDM head lights that look like the single piece USDM head lights. There was also a B-Spec TS-R, which was a GT-B, but without the turbo setup and also had the same projector-less head lights.

The OP's car is the first year second generation, and to answer his question, the 5 -speed trans can be swapped with and other second generation 5-speed unit.

One of these should fit, and would be the best option for a used transmission:

I know it really, Japan, Canada, and NZ that get the rear lights with the logo that says "LEGACY" but I like the shit outta that. 86 the spoiler for a small lip.

I don't know how to feel about the rear wiper though:

I say the corner tails with the clear signal lenses slapped on a USDM GT looks much better than any other model. It's just perfect and clean. Short spoilers look wimpy, the "legacy" center garnish looks weird, the trunk center break light looks out of place, and the emblems look much better on the trunk..

^^^Kenny, Kenny, Kenny....well, yes first off the clear rear blinkers do look great and they are on my list. Now as far as the rear center garnish reading "Legacy" looking weird. Having the word Legacy (which is vintage) vs. the rear end just having the car's brand name is rather cool to me. It's just like saying the word "Toyota" was smacked in the middle of the back of a Supra's tail. I think it looks more classy. The Legacy really does have a cult people following it's particular model. The bug eyed, blob eyed, shark eyed, WRX STI and RS crowd are very adament about keeping their blood line definitive as well. So, Legacy center garnish: Priceless! Now, here lies the problem with USDM vs. JDM Lego's trunk's and why you never see the Legacy garnish here even AFTER they go buy JDM tails. The Legacy's trunk lines are not the same in regards to the opening of the plates right under the garnish and between the reverse lights. The shape slightly different between them. Take a look here:

USDM trunk square opening with "Subaru" center garnish:

JDM trapezoidal opening with "Legacy" center garnish:

A very subtle difference indeed. One would not notice unless he had a trained eye.

As for the spoiler delete. I think the 2nd Gen Legacy has the best Tail out of the entire blood line of Lego's and the car lines flow well with the SVX inspired tails here is a JDM Lego that has 86'ed his spoiler:

And as far as the Badgeless trunk I really like the way GT looks on the rear panel under the brake lights. Also, because my BD won't be a 2.5GT anymore this year.....

This car really makes me LOVE the BD Lego much.

Another on the Spoiler delete:

cars in sweet condition just has real noisy thrust bearing in the gearbox.. i found a gearbox that matches up out of a rs but thought hey why not swap both the cars for a going one and not have to do the gearbox work.. price selling for if sold would be about 1200 as the nz market is flooded with all types of subaru.. gts..wrxs everywhere so all cheap as
