RedLGT
Hi guys, Noob here! 2006 Legacy GT Limited (70k) I just bought the car and I started hearing this noise intermittently at idle... I uploaded a video I took from on top of my hood scoop at idle so you can hear what I'm trying to find. You can hear the sound I'm referring to up until about 10 sec. the rest is mostly just normal idle noise. Any ideas?
BigBad
Sounds like it might be your idler pulley bearing going.
RedLGT
I think you're right, at least that's a good place to start. I'll post back when I know for sure. I guess this is something that should be handled with some urgency? Additionally, would this be an indication I should inspect my timing belt and other components? BigBad
Well you have to take the belts off to replace that pulley so if they are worn at all I'd replace them while you're at it. The replacement oem idler pulley was redesigned and is a much heavier duty unit compared with the original it replaced when I did mine. Your timing belt and related components should be fine to 105k.
