Bad MAF sensor or?

Recommended Posts

Hello

My Legacy is sometimes reving up and down and loosing engine power.

These are the fault codes i get: 3 long and 2 short, 1 long and 2 short. I checked online and one of these is saying that the MAF is giving wrong signals, is that right?

The car starts normally and the choke seems to do the job, stable rev on a cold engine.

After 10-15 mins of driving when the engine gets warm it most of the times start reving up and down. If i try to drive when the rev problem is in place then it seems like im losing power. But most of the times when i drive long trips with this problem it helps to press the throttle all the way down(It smells like unburnt fuel in my car after a while too..)

Here is a video of the revving: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KOKdBqFxOM]Subaru Legacy 2.0 GLX - YouTube[/ame]

Could it be something else than the MAF sensor?

Clean your MAF sensor and see if it helps, only $6. When my MAF was bad I didn't have any revving problems like you. My car would lose power when I pressed the throttle and and it felt like fuel cut or unmetered air was getting into the system.

So it seems as if you are getting two codes, 32 and 12. 32 is Oxygen sensor inoperative and 12 is Abnormal signal emitted from starter switch. Here is a good link for reading trouble codes: http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html
