rearended today - unseen damage?

Recommended Posts

I got hit similarly in my wagon... there was a scratch on the black bumper/step protector that her bumper rode up over, and a scuff where the car came to rest on the hatch. Assessment: $1400 in my favour. I wondered the same thing as you. And sat on it for 1 year, finally decided to take the cash payout and not get any repair done. No seams in bodywork out of alignment, no interior seams in wheel well split, no creases in any metal work, hatch not out of alignment, or poor seal problem (leakage) after a year... no visible plastic rivet pops or mounting hole tears.. nothing. I figured the body shop would do more damage disassembling and repainting and trying to get factory alignment of all the panels and pieces all in their place.

The subie is a tough little bugger that took a hit in the chops and we got on with life. There's no way the next buyer would even know the car has tapped on the butt. I didn't mention the incident to my insurance company. I did get a police damage report so maybe there is something on record for the VIN.. but meh..

Hey Scott, thanks for the feed back.

Pillboy, I waiting for her to say "Is there anything I could do...? (cue the porn guitar)", when I saw how chewed up her fingernails were. Figured I'd be better off with her insurance info.
