Toallhisdoom
can i put my 98 lgt 2.5 engine in a 2001 outback? or will it not work? i know my engine is a ej25 and the 2001 outback has the ej25d. But could i make it work fairly easy? There is a pretty decent body of a 2001 outback with a blown engine for $1000 on cl.
WESTcoast
you can put the shortblock in there, keep the sohc heads (assuming its a 2.5 and not the h6) and use the outbacks intake mani plug it all up and your are good to go. 2nd gens came with dohc and 3rd gens and up(except GC's then except the 98 gc) so there are certain wires that are different the ecu works differently (to control that sohc) Im sure someone else can chime in to add more light than what i have to say
Toallhisdoom
hmm, alright. so the sohc's would bolt right up to my 2.5? its also a manual outback and my legy is auto. so that is another big plus! i hate auto cars....
WESTcoast
yeah exactly with mine, the everything will bolt up to everything, make sure you use the shortblock put on a new set of headgaskets from subaru. Get the outback heads check out, and milled/cleaned all that jazz. Timinng belt, waterpump pulleys if need be, then top it off with the intake manifold of the outback so all the plugs go right where they should.
