scoobydoobie
Have only ever run UHPAS tires, but am thinking about getting some 18x8s for the warmer months. Wanted to get some opinions on summer tires. I will likely run 235/40/18s. I need something with great dry traction and performance as well as great wet traction and hydroplane resistance since we tend to get a lot of rain here in the summer. Thanks guys. scoobydoobie
Would like to spend $800 or less if possible. I'm in central VA. I don't track the car. It is my DD with occasional on ramp and curvy road fun.
krzyss
My picks (215/45R17 or 225/45R17): Hankook V12 Evo Nokian Z G2 http://simpletire.com/nokian-z-g2-tires Continental DW Michelin PSS I would probably buy Nokians today if I were buying now. BAC5.2
Dunlop Direzza Z2's, or a leftover set of Z1's. scoobydoobie
Looks like Hankook v12 and Continental DW are both $624 on tirerack for a set of 235/40/18s. Out of the 2, it seems the DW have better reviews and longer tread life. Opinions on those 2 tires?
krzyss
Per C&D Continental is better. http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/monsters-of-grip-nine-summer-performance-tires-tested-comparison-test Krzys
V8Bait
Yeah from what I've heard people like the DW better. I personally like my V12's but, I have never tried the DW's so I can't comment on those.
Heedz
DW is a great all around tire. Dry and wet traction. -Run a couple PSI over what's on the car -Do not get a 45 sidewall

coppertone
I've run two sets of 235//40/18 DWs and they have handled like beasts. My buddy went with 225/45/18 of the same tire and it was a dog. The sidewalks were sloppy and it never gave him that ride that he was looking for. We swapped over my wheels and tires, and it transformed his car. Difference of night and day in my opinion. 2010 2.5GT limited is for sale.

boxkita
Michelin SuperSport are wicked nice tires. I'm on my second set. Even thou rated for summer weather, they were working just fine at 38 degrees on the way to the track Saturday morning. Drive to the track, drive all day, drive home. Doesnt get much better than that. Wet roads they were really well, too. Build my car Boxkita Track days
StoplightAssassin
I always liked the Kumho Ecsta SPT. I did a couple autoxes on them back in the day. It was a nice daily driving summer tire. It can handle the turns, but is still very comfortable to drive on. At $116 in a 225/40/18, it's very budget friendly. 235/40/18 are $145ea which is still pretty cheap. Wheelbuilder_25
I'm happy with my cheap Summitomo HTR Z III's. They wear pretty quick, but do well in the rain, and stick well down to about 40-45 degrees.
