Please help me fix these few problems...

Recommended Posts

About 6 months ago we got my girlfriend an 08 3.0R Limited. It's a great car, but the previous owner managed to do "random" damage to it, that I'd like to take care of. Some of the stuff I'm not even sure how he managed to mess it up, as the car only has 38k miles on it.

First, leather on the steering wheel:

As you can see the leather has pulled out from under the controls on the wheel and although a small detail, is noticable. What is the best way to fix this? remove the controls and try to stretch the leather back under there? Leather is obviously more workable when it's wet, so i've thought about soaking that area and trying to use something to push it back under, but it would be tough to get an adhesive under there at the same time.

Second, the glove box:

As you can see the left side of the glovebox hangs a lot lower than the right. again, not sure how you can even do this type of damage, but being a perfectionist- this is an eyesore. how do I go about fixing this? i tried removing the glovebox but would love some pictures or how to on the process so i have a better idea how to go about this.

please help me out!

To replace the steering wheel you will need to have everything apart, at which point you should just glue down the leather on yours. I wouldn't bother wetting it, just a little dab of super glue to hold it down and reassemble.

The glovebox is actually a design problem, not the previous owners fault. All you need to do is bend the hook that the glovebox latch engages up a bit to make the panel latch. Just go slow so you don't go too far and prevent the latch from closing. I think someone made a walkthrough for this as well. Let me look...

Here are a couple links - no pics or walkthrough, just some simple explanations:

Thanks for the help. not sure if I would want to replace the steering wheel to fix that little bit of leather. I may try some adhesive and play with it. I will mess with the glove box later on. Good to know others have the sagging glove box problem, sad to know there's a weak design on them.
