Has anyone done iPad integration yet?

In the near future, I'll be attempting a simple iPad mount in my Legacy for use with music and GPS. I've seen the youtube video Drew888 posted, and was wondering if anyone else on here has attempted it.

As far as mounting, I'm considering the Pro-Clip iPad mount. It is $49.99 I believe.

Before I get that, I may try a hefty strip of velcro on my cubby to see how that works first.

What does the ProClip mount to? To use on track it has to have a solid mount so my string/vent mount goes out the window for track days.

The HVAC in our cars are borderline to begin with in the summer. You mount something that big in front of your main vents,be prepared to sweat. The hefty velcro will leave a mess of glue on your dash after the weight of the Ipad pulls it off in the hot sun.

boarderline? really? My Shrek blows colder than my mothers Lexus and much colder than my father in laws F350 superduty and that's in 96* heat.

I can't complain. Seriously...don't use velcro.

I don't know about for something a large as an Ipad, but I can personally vouch for the stability of the pro-clip mounts. I was a bit worried about such a small mount coming loose and/or the heat messing up the adhesive it comes with, but after nearly a month of summer at sometimes 100+ degress, it's held up nicely. Proclip makes three mounting bases for the Legacy as far as I know, one on either side of the cubby and one that mounts low on console near the shifter. The clip mounts solidly and holds my Garmin in place nicely. This is what mine looks like:

I'd be interested to see the Ipad fixed-mounted somehow in a Leggy.

Nice! I'm interested in the options. Please document!

My GPS project hit a standstill because I upgraded to 3.2.2, which can't be jailbroken. Looks like I won't be able to until iOS4.2 comes out in November when the jailbreak dev team starts working again :/

For those that don't know, a jailbroken wifi ipad can use an external bluetooth GPS receiver to have the same functionality as a 3G iPad without the cost.

I Jailbroke my iPad just for the MyWi4 and My3G apps. Turns my iPad into a mobile hotspot, and allows me to watch YouTube videos without being distorted on 3G. Other than that, it is worthless to jailbreak. Before anyone says anything about hotspot phones, I have an iPhone 4 and accidentally upgraded it to 4.0.2, thus cannot be jailbroken at this time. As soon as Dev team cracks that FW, I will JB my iPhone, and restore my iPad to all it's regular glory.

Just got back from NYC and took some terrible lowlight pics of my new toys, you get the idea. I upgraded to an iPad 3G at the 5th Ave Apple Store

I love it. Currently the iPad is streaming BT audio into a Satechi Soundfly BT A2DP FM Transmitter which eliminates any wires coming from it. Real clean installation and obviously the interface is perfect and easy to use for on-dash work.

Very nice, question though, the Soundfly needs to be plugged into the cigarette lighter. I don't see it in the pic. Did you install another somewhere else to keep it hidden?

I like the idea of no wires, but I also like not seeing the Soudfly.

It does. Bad news though. It absolutely sucks.

I just got a return label from Amazon. There is no way this thing is worth the 70 I spent on it, my Monster brand FM transmitter from 4 years ago works so much better.

The problem is that the FM signal sounds like absolute sh*t coming out of the Satechi. Background static is terrible, and the music distorts for no reason.

Unfortunately the Satechi is one of the only BT to FM transmitters on the market I could find. I'm going to be trading my proclip for the one without the dock functionality so I can plug in my own FM transmitter.

Did the FM signal get better when plugged in the main outlet in the dash? Corded will always produce a better signal.

"for the one without the dock functionality so I can plug in my own FM transmitter"

Can you elaborate? Thanks!! I believe I bought the one with the passthrough. I'll know tomorrow when it gets here.

If I can somehow hide the physical audio cable from the iPad to under the console I'm good, as I have drilled a hole in the rear box where it would exit to be plugged into the OEM location (originally for my ipod video to Nav). Maybe route in into the vent then down and out in the box (?).

Did you get the $99 or $59 version? I think the $99 has a dock connector built in, while the one I bought, the $59, allows you to mount the stock iPad cord in there. Its kind of useless for me, because the stock cord only allows USB out...not audio unless your HU supports it...which ours obviously doesn't.

I decided to keep the one I have as Proclip doesn't have an exchange policy. I'm going to dremel the cord-holder so an aftermarket cable fits in it, and I can use the old FM transmitter I have using an extension cord. The extension will be used to get the line-out feed out of the 30pin connector. I'll just feed the extension into the glovebox and have everything else go on behind the dash, hidden away.

I'll get pics when the 30-pin extension comes in the mail so you can better understand what I'm saying.

Ok, my Pro clip mount arrived tonight!! WooHoo!

I'm missing something, don't you just run the audio and power to the cubby and plug it in?

the only cord you see is it leaving the iPad and dissapearing into the console somewhere.

Or could you use the Apple vid out cable for the iPad and run it to the armrest cubby then an RCA to 3.5 adapter ? Ah but then no power... Hmmmm...

Yeah, I'm not too worried about power, the battery life on this thing is ridiculous.

I don't have an aux-in as I have an '05 ;) That's why I'm forced to do all these crazy shenanigans with FM transmitters and extension cords. I might rig it up so the face of the FM transmitter sits in my ashtray, so if I have to change the station, I can just pop it out then hide it.

did you skip my post? :) put in an aux in! I have the Leiptronix in my 05 and I'd recommend it over the other aux in solutions.
