cubby suction cup mount (mounting 7" tablet)

A few years ago, someone made a plate to go into the cubby that allowed a suction cup to be mounted in there... he even started a website, where you can see the plates i'm talking about:

http://www.cubbymounts.com/

I emailed him already but no response. Anyone know of any similar products out there?

I've got a 7" tablet that I've got hooked up to BtSsm, which allows me to use it as a boost gauge and also an ECU monitor, and easy access logger. I'm trying to mount it in a good location that I can see while I'm driving (mainly the boost gauge), but not block anything (besides the cubby, I guess).

Any ideas on mounting locations?

I plan on mounting a tablet where my radio is. The plan is to mount a panel where the opening is and using scosche magnets to attach the tablet to the panel. You could easily do this in the cubby area and have a way of removing the tablet to hide it.

According to scosche, the neodymium magnets are strong enough to damage hard drives (I have a solid state tablet) but wont damage tablets or phones. I have heard they may damage magnets from one person but I haven't seen or read it anywhere else.

never got a response from my email. wasn't bold enough to attempt the purchase to only have to recall it if it never shows up.

it sounds like the initial item was made by tracing the removable rubber mat that sits in the cubby and cutting it out of a plastic.

Really not a bad idea! Im thinking of cutting out some plexi glass (tracing the rubber mat) and replacing the mat with the plexi glass and in the back make some sort of 'L' rising from the back of the glass to anchor the weight of the tablet. In the front id glue another piece running down in front of my radio with some type of 'U' clip on the bottom to hold it in place. Might be worth a try!

I think there are little protrusions in the rubber mat that sit into some sockets to hold it in place. I'd imagine those are necessary in the plastic version to hold it in place, and they could potentially be used to anchor.

i've thought about doing the same, myself. really want to find a location to mount my tablet for use with BtSsm

My point exactly! But dude... Great idea... If I can cut the peice to fit in those holes it might actually same me some hassle trying to dismount the bracket when i wont need it. And might actually be the easiest route besides trying the 1$ copper method lol.

might want to check out: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/3d-printing-development-thread-231380.html

I asked about a new cubby/bezel/frame that would hold a tablet, and they're thinking about it. This would be similar to the permanently mounted tablets that some people do, but with a lot less work.. Of course, might take 6 months or more, no idea..

So I was looking into installing some gauges on my OBXT now that I finally have it back. After a new turbo, rebuilt engine and various other repairs on my new (used) car I believe it is a good idea to monitor it a bit. Is there any advantage/disadvantage to doing this via physical gauges or a tablet? The tablet seems like a more versatile and economical solution. Suggestions?

I am running Btssm on a 7 in tablet and this is how I have mine mounted. I got this mount in Black Friday at best buy for 18 and so far it has held solid.
