Refuge
Is this something to be worried about?
bmx045
sludge. Numerous things can cause that build up, it's normal...but to reduce it you should change your oil more frequently if you don't do 3k intervals. Pretty sure throttle body cleaner will clean that right up....
apexi
I wouldn't worry about it really. As bmx said, more frequent oil changes are the best way to prevent it from happening. On a turbo legacy, I wouldn't exceed 4k with conventional oil, and I'd try to keep it under 6-7k with synthetic. If your car isn't consuming any oil, I would probably run synthetic since its more resistant to oxidation (which is causing your VC to look like that), and you have to change it less frequently, which is always a good thing in the winter time if you do it yourself. naimouasta
change your oil more often and also change your PCV valve if you have a lot of miles. that will help in reducing sludge and burning oil.
Refuge
Thats chill. I have 110k and have used synthetic non-stop. Moving to Rotella soon! Change every 3500. About to change the PCV valve piping (should I get it from Subaru?) Thanks
B-BGTLimited
Fred Beans has the PCV part you need. Probably cheaper than at the dealer too.
