STI JDM Wagon Quad Tips Review

STI Wagon Quad Tips on my wagon ... Big up to Jimmy at HKC Speed...I will update this thread as I experience more...suffice it to say without the JDM bumper they tuck under a bit more...which I actually was hoping and like!

At the dealer I did a head to head comparison to a 2008 STI as the pipes visually are the same and low and behold...the same sound emerged...very subtle!

More to follow....

I've had my STi cans for several months now. Bought them because Johndas got them and I saw and heard them in person.

at idle, they throb with a nice bass note. Like a factory STi.

When accelerating they are nice and bassey from 1-3k RPM, then when you open it up in the higher revs, they pretty much settle back into a normal LGT exhaust sound and lose the bass. But you can hear the boxer throb much better. Not obnoxious when driving hard.

Puttering around a parking lot is when they are most noticeable, no joke. That's where the boxer engine bass throb is most apparent.

But I'm stage 2 with only one mid cat, so they might be quieter if you slap them on a stock 2.5i or LGT.

All in all, they are pricey, but look great and very understated. With a factory rear bumper, they tuck under noticeably like in John's post 1 pics. If I'm standing behind the car about 5-10 feet away, you can barely see them.

But any driver in his car behind me on the road sure see them. And hear them.

I bought them as they are JDM (I'm a collecter) and are quad tip and straight bolt-on.

Welding dual tips on a couple Magnaflow cans would be more noticable in appearance and likely a lot louder, but again, they wouldn't be JDM, and they wouldn't sound or look as subtle- which is what I like best.

Sometimes I wish the exhaust was louder in order to scare other drivers on the road, but I know that would get old quickly.

Eh, the numbers used to float somewhere...

FWIW, I still have these on one of my wagons and I love how they sound (stock y-pipe, gutted front dp cat, catless up).

Holy Thread Bump!

Any chance of the part numbers?

SC

I know this is an old question but I'd like to revive this thread.

Here are the part numbers:

ST4430021001 for turbo sedan

ST4430021011 for turbo wagon

ST4430021020 for N/A sedan

ST4430021030 for N/A wagon

Now I believe this raises more questions. 4 different part numbers? I think it's safe to assume that the wagon models have slightly longer tips. But what would the difference be between the N/A and turbo mufflers?

I have recently installed a JDM Outback bumper on my 2008 3.0R (Thanks HKC Speed) and would very much like to put some STi sport mufflers on. But will the N/A or turbo make a big difference? All the used listings I've seen do not specify what they are.

And this is how they look on an Outback 3.0R with a JDM bumper. I'd like them to stick out more as these are designed for the JDM Legacy which had an even shorter bumper than the JDM Outback.

When I get some Raptor headers I'll see if the exhaust shop can push the mufflers back a little.

And as far as sound and performance goes. Right now I have a completely stock exhaust except the STi Quad Tip mufflers.

They have a very deep sound at very low RPM, like 500 or so when you're parking. Other than that there is not much of a difference while driving but it does sound a little louder.

My butt dyno actually feels a difference in low and mid range torque. I'm very happy with them.

These are great cans. But market for LGT things is not what it used to be. I had hard time selling them for $500.

That's because unfortunately I wasn't looking when you were selling haha. I just got mine a few months ago and I think you had just sold yours. I was pretty upset that I missed the opportunity.
