Did Saab have a Legacy spinoff?

Having an argument on another forum, did saab have a version of the Legacy like the 9-2 was a WRX? Or any sharing whatsoever with a Legacy? I don't believe they did, he does. Thanks.

I wouldn't say that - but they do have similarities in the external design - but also differences.

 

And the Saab is a lot heavier.

I think the closest sounding name car to the Legacy would be Acura's Legend..

It's a yes/no question people. Superhawk's alluding to the Saabaru 9-2X, which was a WRX with cosmetic changes. It was even built by FHI.

It was going to be called the 9-6x. I saw one before it died. It was MUCH better looking than the Tribeca.

well, the design of the 9-6x was basically the refresh for the 2008.

I always called them Saabarus because they looked so much like legacys, imprezas and tribecas.

I never understood why someone would buy the 9-2. The interior is identical to an Impreza's, so it's hideous. The suspension was tuned softer than the Subaru versions and the car was more expensive. No wonder the car flopped and was stopped.

As I understand it, back in the day the Saabaru was quite a deal, well at least the Aero model was, if you were otherwise considering the WRX. The Saab could have leather, sunroof, HIDs and 17-inch wheels when Subaru did not offer them on the WRX, as well as more sound insulation, an STI steering rack and aluminum suspension arms that the WRX also did not have.

 

Bundle that with 3 years of free maintenance which was standard with Saabs. I guess because it was a flop, many people picked the Saabaru up for the same or less than what a Subaru went for.

 

I think it flopped for reasons other than not being a good car. Probably not the right car for Saab's customers.

the 06 saabaru did come with the 255 motor, that might be the connection he was talking about. but the 255 did come in the wrx as well so.

^^^I actually liked the 9-2x's seats and the color of the interior. The STI steering rack is supposedly phenomenal in that car. Some creature comforts were also added that never made it to the Subaru side such as side airbags for that time period...

My wife's car is actually a Saabaru.. from the front it's an Impreza 2.5ts, from the rear it's a 9-2x Aero.

 

Really.. she smacked up her hatch and bumper and we replaced it with a Saab hatch and rear bumper.. I also picked up a Saab exhaust, that's next to go on. Next up we're doing the roof rail delete on her Impreza Aero.

 

Probably the only one in existence..

^ I know, I know. I used the search keys the other day after a 9-2x parked next to me. I have never really looked one over till then. Honestly, I was only really after the info on the interior. The seats and interior looked sharp (also good lateral support) on the Saaburu and I was wanting to read if the front seats were manual and could be swapped into the Subaru. Also, look at the center and the cup holders!! The inside door panels look awesome as well because they match the front and back seats. I've never been a fan of the "STI blue" seats and interior. My Lego is black. The Saaburu seats are not leather which works great for me in Texas heat. Here are some views. I don't know that anyone on here has ever swapped the Saab's seats and center cup holders.
