what should i do with my car

Recommended Posts

Long story short i wrecked her last night and the front passenger side is smushed. In my opinion it's totaled. It wouldn't start after either. I'm pretty sure the timing belt came off because when I tried to start it sounds like the pulley is spinning with no belt on it. But if this were your car what would you do? I have insurance but I'm not sure if it's worth it to get them involved. Will post pictures soon

that's what i would do except i have no place to tear down or even keep a totaled vehicle.

Yeah, that looks like it will be totaled out. It almost certainly has frame damage (well, damage to the unibody). There are two beams that come from the firewall...and the end of it is right where all that damage is.

At the very least you are going to need

Fender

Hood

Core Support

Headlight

Bumper cover

Bumper Beam

Bumper foam

Radiator (maybe)

Condensor (maybe)

Fog Light

And whatever else may have been damaged.

When insurance looks at a vehicle, usually if the repair will exceed 30% of its value, they will total the car....and in this case it looks like a few grand in repairs.

My friends Outback was totalled and looked a lot like yours. Some idiot hit it while it was parked out on the street. The guys' insurance gave then $3500 for the car, or something close to that. Then they bought the car back from the insurance company for $1100, and sold it for $1500. So that is an option.

However, it would depend on what type of coverge you have. You said that you had insurance, But what type? Full coverage, liability? If you only have liability you are probably hosed.

My car was "totaled" in a recent accident in which some idiot rammed the side of it. In keeping the car, I was STILL given a check for $3,000. Cost me $1500 for the body shop to fix ALL the damage and had lots left over that I poured into many other repairs (part of the reason my car looks so good now.) So weigh your options, but remember that you COULD get several grand from insurance for it.

Dylan won't be as lucky if he gets the insurance company involved.. His car was wrecked because of his actions, it wasn't anyone elses fault. Therefore reporting this to his insurance will make his rates go up. It would be smart to report it to insurance and buy it back IF someone else would have hit the car. I don't know if I would report it to your insurance since your rates would go up. I know with me being 19 years old my insurance is already expensive enough without having any claims. If you do happen to have comp coverage you could maybe say you hit a deer. That's what the PO said with my car... But really she ran into a guard rail at the beginning of a bridge.

I have full coverage but what ^^ he said is why I probably won't go through insurance because my rates would skyrocket. so hopefully I can find another decent car and make a little money from my outback. I want a damn SS!

Someone send me a check and I'll go pick it up for ya'! ;)

If I didn't already have one I'd go get it for myself. I do know of a black SS w/140k for $1200 here as well. Has a 4EAT like mine. Of course I wish I had a 5MT but I gave the SS to my wife and she likes the auto, lol.

I wish I had the extra cash to throw around like that but I'll have to wait until I find out whats best to do with my outback before I throw down the cash. But that SS is a beauty. :) I'd prefer the 5MT too but when you're looking for an SS I think either would make me happy.

It's $1200. The sunroof leaks, and it is leaking oil from all over the place. It still runs but has been sitting for a while. If it was me I would just pull the motor and rebuild it. No rust and the interior is in great shape though.

Ahhh just ship your outback to me and call it aday! lol... This is mine how i bought it for $500 and done nothing really but tires.... I say fix it and drive the heck out of it...... Mine has some damage to the lower rad support and well i don't think there is a spot with no damage on the body. Yours looks alot easier to fix just go to a junk yard and get what you need.....
