mikeislord
Hey guys, Just moved to OC from Central NJ. Need some help getting through SMOG - etc, wondering if anybody here can help me out.. I currently have aftermarket UP/catted DP/Mid-Y with stock cans. I know this will not pass visual for SMOG. Luckily I brought my engine cover so I just need to cut it and pop it back on over my TMIC. Anybody have a stock DP and/or Mid-Y for sale or for borrow? Anybody know a shop willing to throw those on, do a SMOG, then throw my stuff back on? Anybody know an enthusiast friendly shop that does SMOG? (PM only please). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also look forward to getting Spotted here in SoCal or going on a Subie cruise. Thanks, Mike
Drift Motion
TMIC is not part of the SMOG related stuff you just need to throw back the stock UP/DP and you're good to go or if you can find some shady shop to pass you, the catted DP should pass sniffer
mikeislord
Is there an issue with an aftermarket Mid-Y or just the UP and DP because of the cats? Perhaps I misunderstood how SMOG inspection works.
shadowsports
Probably get some useful info here... http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/norcal-california-emissions-and-inspection-thread-134921.html Not about SoCal SMOG friendly stations, but atleast about what you can expect to pass or fail. Welcome to CA (read) the SMOG Nazi Capital of the United States.
mikeislord
Yeah I already searched and read that thread. Is the visual inspection related to viewable cats or any piece of modified exhaust? Seems like the latter from what I've read.
Drift Motion
AFAIK, the last cat is in the downpipe, thus doesn't matter if you change out the mid/y-pipe
m sprank
Yo Mike!!! You in Cali now???!!! I can assist you if needed. My shop is in San Marcos. I might just be able to assist with the state inspection you need to pass.
mikeislord
Yeah buddy. I already talked to Shamar about getting re-tuned for this garbage ass CA91. I'll PM you.
Scooter
Sorry I didn't see this thread earlier. Even though the smog stations are supposed to do a visual check, they don't always pay close attention. I think as long as your engine bay looks stock with the hood open, chances are good that the technician isn't going to get down on the ground to look underneath. My advice is just to try a shop that looks like it needs the business with the car as-is, before you go swapping everything and re-tuning: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/stage-2-lgt-passes-ca-smog-77753.html?t=77753 YMMV. And yes, Mike, I have since ditched the TDC tune and am running an Infamous tune now. Seek first to understand, then to be understood. In other words: SEARCH before you post!
