ABPillinois
http://www.automobilemag.com/new_and_future_cars/2010/0904_2010_subaru_outback/index.html Outback buyers choose between a revised, 170-hp version of Subaru's 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine and a new version of Subaru's existing boxer six. The new six-cylinder is bored out from 3.0 to 3.6 liters and now runs on regular fuel. While the six is mated solely to a five-speed automatic transmission, the four can be mated either with a new-to-the-USA six-speed manual or to Subaru's brand-new CVT (continuously variable) automatic with paddle shifters. The Legacy GT sedan's turbocharged four is not offered here http://image.automobilemag.com/f/new_and_future_cars/2010/15657566+w440/0904_01_z+2010_subaru_outback+front_three_quarters_view.jpg "All right, brain, I don't like you and you don't like me - so let's just do this and I'll get back to killing you with beer." heybige
I actually like it - mostly because of the utility/practicality aspect and increased size. The Legacy though...ugh.
ABPillinois
I actually like the Legacy grill better than the Outback's "All right, brain, I don't like you and you don't like me - so let's just do this and I'll get back to killing you with beer." KartRacerBoy
Subaru has zero ability to style cars. If they get a good looking car from the stylists, it's by pure accident. Then they keep changing it, gradually making it uglier. Example? The decline of the 2005 LGT until 2009 (making the front end more trucklike). Or the WRX (bugeye > stumble into 2004-06 WRX front end (best of a blah design) >2007-2008 "jet nose" design (wtf?) > 2009 bland WRX redesign). ABPillinois
I like the rear alot better than teh Legacy GT http://www.caranddriver.com/var/ezwebin_site/storage/images/news/auto_shows/2009_new_york_auto_show_nyias_auto_shows/production_debuts/2010_subaru_outback_auto_shows/2010_subaru_outback/2010_subaru_outback_17/2100418-1-eng-US/2010_subaru_outback_17_gallery_image_large.jpg "All right, brain, I don't like you and you don't like me - so let's just do this and I'll get back to killing you with beer." So you get a Forester or a stretched forester or a tall forester. I don't get it "All right, brain, I don't like you and you don't like me - so let's just do this and I'll get back to killing you with beer." lawl
it actually seems like they designed this first. it's cohesive, flows decently and the rear actually looks nice. then they chopped off the legs removed some cladding and called it the LGT. i would actually buy one of these over the sedan. car for sale. PM me!

Guest
The Outback is also turd, but somehow less offensive than Legacy. Looks like many other crappy CUVs designs. What's wrong with this roof rack.. why the rails need to be thaaat wide? http://media.subaru.com/file.php/687/2010_Outback_3.6R_12.jpg
MDork
definitely more cohesive than the sedan but really doesnt look like a wagon anymore. are specs out? Id bet this monster is the same height as the Infiniti EX....

I think you are right. FHI designed Outback first (hence high roof line) then they made sedan from this and voila - new Legacy. Krzys PS I wonder how will it sell. Viber
I actually like it. Not bad Subaru. Much better than the Legacy Sedan. Lots of utility and plenty of ground clearance for people who actually take their vehicles offroad. Its a solid alternative to the Xterra, and FJ cruiser from the looks of it, rather than the Rav4 or CRV.
gf2020
Glad I have my '08 Outback XT 5-speed! Guess I'll plan on handing it down to my kids in 5 or 6 years and get myself an STI. There is zero chance I will drive that XC70 copycat!

camber
The styling bits make more sense on Outback. Looks like an anonymous CUV. However, the same styling on the on Legacy looks like hot slop

Beanboy
WTH? Forester is the size of the current Outback wagon, correct? And the new Legacy is now on Tribeca-length wheelbase? Is there really that much room in the market for all three? -B http://www.standardshift.com
katalyst
i agree with most of the comments, this styling is less offensive as an outback, the wheel arches tend to work in its favor. i have a feeling it will be a hit with the general public. the legacy is still ugly, i need to re-say it. Viber
I like it...It almost seems like the Outback was designed first and the USDM legacy was an after thought. I like it more than the Forester and the Tribeca by a wide margin http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/006_nyc_outback.jpg http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/000_nyc_outback.jpg http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2009/04/002_nyc_outback.jpg
Jerboa113
hrmm.. look like they took a tribecca.. put it in a car crusher and stopped before it finished the job. why does it get fogs and the lgt does not? unless thats an option..
