It's back! New short block, BNR 16g, PW TMIC, etc

Recommended Posts

So after roughly a month, I FINALLY have my car back up and running :dm: Before I start, I just want to say we are very lucky to have such great vendors in our community. Really good, fast shipping, there to answer questions, and offer advice. A big thanks to the 3 that I used to put my parts list together...THANK YOU to Infamous Performance and Tuning, Boston Motorsports, and Heuberger Motors. Most of all, a big THANK YOU to KB Werks which is my brother's shop he just opened with his friend and colleague. They put in a lot of time and effort in dealing with the warranty company, and rebuilding my car. They had it ready in a week once everything came in.

I just LOVE the way the car drives now. SMOOTH whether idle or driving, although I have not been able to truly get on it. Some part throttle driving but nothing hard, but even part throttle you can just feel that this thing wants to GOOOOOO! It's only been 100 miles on the new short block, applicable oil change done at 50 miles, and I'm running 5w30 Castrol dino for break in. Once break in is over (plan to be gentle with some part throttle spurts until 1500 miles), I can start logging to complete my e-tune. For a base map though, the car drives and behaves even better than stock. Responsive, and smoother. I plan to run dino at my 500 mile, 1500 mile, and 3k mile oil change. At about 3k miles, I plan to go with Rotella T6 5w40 and BG MOA additive with 2500 mile OCI.

Besides the new short block with new oil pump, oil control valves, gates racing timing kit with kevlar belt, refinished heads, new head studs, new plugs, I decided now is the time to do everything I would want as far as power so I went with a BNR 16g turbo, Process West TMIC, STi up, CNT catted dp, Stromung CBE, Infamous e-tune, defi boost and oil press. gauges installed in the jcs cubby pod, and AEM UEGO wideband a/f ratio gauge. Along with the above, the car also had the trans rebuilt less than 2k miles ago and I put in a clutch from an 07 LGT with a SMFW.

I think for the price, the CNT can't be beat. Good fitment, good quality. We also tried to make use of the engine cover as best as we could, so we trimmed it up. I think it gives the engine bay a little cleaner look with it. Well, now I'm like a little kid who got his new toy...only I think I'm worse than the little kid! Just loving the car!

Oh, one more pic here...we blessed the new engine with holy water! Hey, anything to hopefully never have any issues there again! Hopefully between the holy water and Shamar it never does.

Good luck with it. :)

Thank you :) And thanks for the advice/info when this whole thing started.

Looks like im about to head down this same road, compression and leak down test didnt come out well.

Good luck with it. It sucks to have that happen, hope it all ends up turning out for the best.

I find it interesting how subaru chose to get rid of the nitrided crank in 2013, now they do heat treated. we shall see how they hold up.

I'm sure Subaru put in tons of r&d and found the heat treating to be just as good...then again it could simply be just cost cutting. I know the ej255/257 had quite a few revisions, and the one I just got is the most recent one (not sure how long this part number has been in effect).

Thanks! I'm on stock fueling so I know I won't be able to reach 300 whp, but if I can get close...say around 285-290 I would be more than happy with that. I'm in break in period right now, so once I get about 1000-1500 miles I'll start logging and when the final tune is done I'm going to dyno. Ideal numbers would be 290 whp and 320 wtq, or close to that, as long as it's a nice safe tune. I'm not looking to get the most aggressive tune possible, I don't mind sacrificing a few hp for reliability. I'm hoping those numbers are achievable.

You may want to get a decent base MAP from a Tuner and run that until you have 500 miles. Then go to the Dyno the Tuner users, or find a Dyno with a Tuner that knows these cars.

It's basically the wide band the Tuner needs.

305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD).  CHECK your oil, these cars use it.

I'm running a base e-tune from Shamar at Infamous right now. Once I get through my break-in period I'm going to log and get the revisions done. My plan is to hit the dyno as soon as the final revision is done so I can see a log off of there, as well as see what the car puts down.
