Q 4 Apexjapan: Anyone in JDM running 225/45/18 on a BL/BP?

225/45/18 are a pretty big jump in diameter from the stock USDM 215/45/17 (+1.4 in), but not as big of a jump from the stock JDM Spec Bs 215/45/18 (+ .4 in.)

So, I was wondering if anyone in Japan is running 225/45/18s on a Legacy, not an Outback. Also, do you think the suspension makes a difference (i.e., 225/45/18 might work with Spec B struts, but won't work with GT Bilstein struts)? FYI, I'm currently on GT Bilstein struts, but might try the Spec Bs.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I think I've seen it, though most people are on 225/40 18's, or even 235/40 18's. I've not seen much in the way of rubbing problems on the new Legacy vs. the older Legacy, so there is quite a bit of leeway as long as you have the right offset, which seems to be somewhere in the +48- +53 range.

I need to look at some larger rubber meself...

Cheers,

Oh, so you weren't with me in the STI Legacy we test drove?? :p

 STi Legacy? Was it more than just the STi add ons?

This is all very encouraging. I've got 18 X 7.5 rims with a +52 offset, so I may go for a used set of 225/45/18s to see how things go before I shell out big bucks for some brand new ones.

I'd ask how the 225/45/18s felt, but seeing as how they were on an STi Legacy, I'm assuming they felt pretty good.

As always, thanks for your help Apex 1 & 2.

No probs m8 - happy to help when able :)

They were P-Zero Neros (the prop ones, not the "no season" stuffola), and they felt fine. Nice and smooth, not too harsh - much better NVH than the 215/45 RE050s I believe. But in the end, they are not as good when it comes to road holding in the wet or dry, IMHO. But if comfy ride and quietness is your thang, can't do much better IMHO.

Oops - didn't answer your question - erm, 'twas just an A rev spec B with everything STI could chuck at it at the time. Since they don't do any true drivetrain/engine tweaks, more show than go, but on balance, a nice drive. Would show a current model a very clean pair of heals, too (modded or std ;) ).

  • 2 months later...

sorry for bringing up an old thread. I already have 225/40-18 tires and i was wondering if i could go up to wheels that are 18x8.0 offset +45 or I should stick with 18x7.5 offset +48 (as recommended on the japanese website my wheels are on)?

Thanks
