DGR81
I'm going to put some in the intake and gas tank tomorrow. I was wondering where the best place to put it in the intake?
BadTrainDriver
Intake hose attached to the PCV, right on top of the engine.
mattmattyxcore
I usually go in through the brake booster line.
Zues Marine
Intake hose attached to the PCV, right on top of the engine. this is the best one, go super slow
vinnycogs
yeah for Subaru's I've read that the brake booster only gets half of the area that the PCV hits. Go slow like Zues said, I put it in until it started smoking, then turned off, waited 10 minutes, and restarted
Bandit240
Brake booster line only gets one cylinder. PVC would be the way to go.
Loscaldazar
Or get the new aersol cans, slip the straw in the intake manifold (right in front of the throttle body), have some rev the engine while squeezing all the way down on the trigger. No danger of hydrolocking, and it is extremely simple to do.
pleaidestar
If you have a short ram intake with the nipples for the crank vents you can spray it in yourself through there and manually throttle the motor, plus you can see between the cowl and hood and look through the windshield and see the white smoke come out. you can do it that way with the aerosol canned seafoam, that's the easiest way for it to be done by yourself. Jeff98GT
You might want to replace the PCV valve too if it's all gunked up with oil blowby. It was only $3 at pepboys. You may want to clean/replace the vacuum line that goes from the crankcase vent to the PCV valve also. Mine was ok, but full of oil that that started to form a crust throughout the line. Kinda like how plaque begins to form in your arteries.
colby
be ready to do some sparkplugs after you seafoam it. My car was misfiring after i did it. to be fair the plugs were due for being changed anyways.
Zues Marine
^this. all the shit that the seafoam breaks apart fouls your plugs
mattmattyxcore
Ah good to know about the pcv rather than booster. That explains why I never got the smokescreen effect when I did it.
twisty
ya, i did brake booster as well and had no cloud. i was slightly disappointed. im gonna redo it with the pcv now tho, hehe.
Sludgeroo
Watch out folks the Subaru's are gonna fog the neighborhood.
DGR81
Well I did it yesterday. Lots of smoke:) I did find out that the front exhaust gasket is no good so now to get under it and fix it also do the power mod.
vinnycogs
You might have done this already too but while you're at it you should switch out your PCV valve, I got one for $3 at Advance, just wrap it with some teflon tape and you're good to go, takes just a minute or two. Sludgeroo
Replace or soak in a tupperware bin full of crc brakleen. Outside of course. It should look new when you pull it out.
Sludgeroo
I say replace if you have everything around, 3$ is cheap
vinnycogs
yeah all you need is some teflon tape (also like $3) and a deep socket 19mm (i think).
DGR81
I'll put it on the list. ^_^
Sludgeroo
Yea a 19mm or 17mm. And also a nice pair of pliers to get the clip off and work the hose if its crusty.
DGR81
I took the hose off and turn it upside down so I could use it as a funnel for the seafoam. It didn't leak either.
vinnycogs
nice, if you have the time and don't feel like going to the auto parts shop, you can test if your pcv valve needs replacing by taking it off and shaking it/looking inside it. If it still rattles you're probably fine, but if the rattle is soft and its gunky in there you should swap it out.
Bandit240
Here's an idea. Get a single outlet washer fluid bottle. Tap the intake runners and install little hose fittings. Plumb the tank to the fittings and fill with Seafoam. Easy way to foam the engine and you've got a spy car smoke screen. I may do this just for the hell of it.
