So I'm on the slickrock trail in Moab, c. 1990, hanging out at the half-pipe with this chick I'm wanting to impress. We're talking for a few, then I get ready to drop in.

I trackstand while cinching up the toe straps on the non-suspension (front or rear) bike, then lean over the bars to bear into the pedal stroke. Front wheel goes about an inch into a tiny lip I never saw, stops, I go over the bars, down the wall of the half-pipe, one foot stays in the pedal, the other rips my shoe off & tosses it across the gap.

Didn't get the digits...

I have a second set of heavy duty rims I put on the bike before hitting the mountain.

I also lower the seat for better control and throw on some body armor just to be on the safe side.

Some of the single tracks are very intense, I've seen lots of Pro's leave there in the back of an ambulance.

But they have many tracks there from Novice to Intermediate to Expert, you'll love it there...

Im going to try to make a trip out there this fall. I have fridays off, so maybe I will shoot out there and check it out.

I want to do some serious riding before the snow comes....

Does anyone have a set of clipless pedals they can part with?

I really only need one Shimano 550. I was riding some rough trails and bottomed out the pedal on a granite rock and destroyed the pedal...

I'm on the trails too. My ride is getting old, but I have a 99 Jamis Dakota AL hard tail, full shimano LX with WTB brakes, RockShoc Judy, Velociraptor tires and Mavic 231 rims. I put an XT bottom bracket and some really. really light pedal clips to chop some pounds. It weighs 20pounds 5 ounces. Not bad for a relic.

Best story????? Three of us battling downhill elbow to elbow, we all dumped and two went to the hospital and got stiches. That was it for down hill. I hit a tree on that run but only had minor scrapes. Tha same night, the National guards were flying training (helicopters) where we were riding, they came swooping down on us like we were Infidels!!!! LOL

I am thinking about rebuilding my Raleigh to be an ultra light bike. I have to start looking for some new wheels shift componets.

I love my Stumpjumper though... . It feels like it handles so much better than my Hard tail. I love coming off jumps and feeling the nice soft suspension absorb the impact.

Since I haven't taken any pics yet, I'm going to cheat a little bit, and post stock photos of my bikes.

'06 Specialized Hardrock Sport Disc:

and as of a few days ago, an '05 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR 100:

http://www.specialized.com/OA_MEDIA/2005/bikes/05StumpjumperFSR_Blue_d.jpg

I'll post real pictures when I get around to taking them. I haven't even had a chance to ride the Stumpy yet except in the street in front of my house, because it's been raining pretty much since I bought it.

How packed does it get?

I hate going out on single track where you have to stop every 100 yards to either pass or be passed

I've been there 3 time, (the last time three years ago) and during the week it's not bad. There's about 40-50 trails, the slower rides tend to stick with the novice trail.

I not sure if I can make it on the 29th, I just picked up a Perrin Downpipe and I'm in the process of picking up a Perrin Up-pipe and Headers, so my funds are limited.

I took a nasty spill today....

I was going up a concrete hill on the edge of york beach and misjudged the edge...

I ended up falling to my weak side and couldnt get out of my clips fast enough...

now my arm has a 6 inch road rash on it and my ankle is throbbing...

^^^^Bummer, man. I'm still a new rider, and I don't think I'm going to try clipless pedals for a while. The shop actually gave me some used platform pedals for free when I bought my Stumpy FSR. I'm thinking about getting some really nice platform pedals, like Specialized Lo Pro Mag 2's; I've heard that they are pricey but worth the money. Anyone know anything about them, or any other really good platform pedals?

I have some cromoly Crank bro egg beaters only used them on my road bike. with new cleats.

If you can afford College, you probably don't need to go.

Try Crank Brothers egg beaters they shed mud like no other, there light, and take a beating. They are also easier to get in and out of, compared to other pedals, to add fewer moving parts and super easy to maintain. Only down side I wouldn't use them to Freeride, however I wouldn't use any clipless to freeride.

If you can afford College, you probably don't need to go.

I'm riding an 05 Kona Dawg and/or an 05 Trek 6700. Neither one has stock parts on it any more.

My wife has an 05 Kona Blast.

I need to buy sturdier wheels this winter for the Dawg, I keep breaking spokes. LOL
