scottdavidsullivan
Looking to swap motors from 2005 2.5 5speed legacy To A legacy gt motor Any tips? Where to find? Clean swap?
BruceBruce
im not sure but i think you'll need almost everything in the engine bay of a GT
E-Tank
Yeah, brucebruce knows his stuff. You'll probably need to swap the piston cluster linkage and inverted camshaft rotors too.
BruceBruce
i wouldnt say i know my stuff. I just remember reading about that in someone elses thread about swapping to a turbo from the NA engine.
E-Tank
Jokes aside, it just isn't a feasible swap. It's a discussion that's been repeated countless times on the forum. Even if hypothetically you could source an inexpensive EJ257 and do all the labor yourself the car will still be lacking in several other areas (ie transmission, brakes, etc.). And anyway, you could find an 05 GT in decent shape for under $10k. Do dat instead.
fonts
+1 Huge job. Not worthwhile. You're better off buying an LGT rather than attempting the engine swap.

root_galaxy
Ouch my friend, doesn't sound good for you. How long have you had it and how about maintenance? Metal shavings is never good no matter how big or small.

borderless-world-g3
the car i have had for a little over a month now. im sure the dealership that sold it to me knew it was a pile of junk. it always would hesitate under load when pushed. I had the spark plugs changed when I saw that there was oil in them. then i had the VCG changed on both sides of the engine. wondering if either of these could be the cause of what happen? It basically happened when i was on the highway, gave the car a good push from 40km to 140km while near redline but never at redline. soon as i let off the gas pedal. check engine light came on. pulled over and while the car is still running ALL the lights the car can show on the cluster, came on at once. then i turned it off and the noises you hear above is all i got from the car. had it towed home. 3rd party warranty only covers 750/repair. so im stuck badly. i know a rebuilt / engine swap costs thousands. its gonna suck to spend on a car i just bought for 8000$ god damn dealership want to go cause some havoc over there <_< pics from the day i was getting spark plugs changed. this was BEFORE getting VCG changed. car was running fine for weeks. http://www.i-club.com/forums/attachments/conversions-transplants-swaps-107/79921d1357154009-2006-legacy-2-5i-turns-but-turns-off-immediately-knocking-squeaks-engine-photo-2-jpg http://www.i-club.com/forums/attachments/conversions-transplants-swaps-107/79922d1357154015-2006-legacy-2-5i-turns-but-turns-off-immediately-knocking-squeaks-engine-photo-1-jpg

ripemeat
so they changed them.. here is a picture when the job was being done i stood there for over an hour in the cold shop making sure they didn't miss anything and still. here i am with a dead car not sure if serious? your engine is toast dude, rod knock or main bearing has spun which means internal lubrication failure or over-reving (or going on the highway in 3rd and dropping to first, rev limiters don't always cut ignition in time). you need a new engine, forget the VCG's. you can't practically put an LGT (EJ255 DOHC) motor into your car, sorry. unless you want to swap everything that's attached to it too... it would be cheaper just to buy an LGT.
