ABP_Tardis_42
I am going to be travelling for business to SF from the 24th of June to the 30th (first time in cali for me http://images.nasioc.com/ubb-files/smilies/biggrin.gif) are there any events that I should look into, or any suby meets? It would be awesome to meet some of the west coast suby guys. Or actually any of the non touristy things to check out before I come back to NY...? I am staying in a hotel by the entrance to chinatown so I will check that out, along with alcatraz and fishermans warf, but what else can I do? TIA everyone
RochNY91TSI
If you want to travel a little and like the outdoors, Muir woods isn't too far north. Same with Pt Reyes Nat'l Seashore. Also, if you like Chinese you have to go to the House of Nanking in China Town. Awesome chinese, nothing like Americanized stuff (it's on 919 Kearny St). My fiance and I went there a couple years ago, we're planning a return trip for the honeymoon :-)
ABP_Tardis_42
Sweet, thanks for the info. Definately going to check out the house of nanking.
highspeed11
Make sure you give Uncle Larry a visit in North Beach...
Scotty
Oh you are in luck. Saturday 6/26 is the Tranny March. Sunday 6/27 is the Gay Pride Parade. The Pink Pistols will be participating in the Tranny March so if you see a bunch of gay, lesbian, and transgender with a empty gun holster on their belt, don't be shocked. You might be shocked at other things though.
wpmarky
What were you looking to do? SF is pretty much like Manhattan, except smaller, and a bit more laid back. golden gate park = central park The Marina = Greenwich village chinatown here is bigger than canal st. North Beach = little italy If yer looking for something you can't find back east, I'd recommend renting a car for the weekend to go up to napa on Saturday, and then try driving through the mountains down the Skyline (Highway 1) to go check out the beaches of santa cruz/monterey on sunday. John muir woods is good for a hike/bike ride. If checking out Company HQ's is your thing like google, apple, ebay, cisco, or any of those companies, they're in the south bay. Bay area subie meets can be found here: http://www.i-club.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=
sactojesse
The California Academy of Sciences is definitely worth a visit: http://www.calacademy.org/ I would tell you to catch a Giants game at AT&T Park, but they're on the road those days. ABP_Tardis_42
I am already planning on going to napa and the woods on that weekend so I will be out of the city but thanks a lot with the other suggestions. I knew it would be better to post on here than buy a book to know what to do. -What is Uncle Larry's in North Beach? -Sactojesse, good looking on the science academy that is right up my alley, I will definately check that out. Thanks Again All

Thanks Again All if your going to napa, jet over towards bodega bay... coleman valley road between occidental and hwy 1 has the best view in the state IMO. also: best pancakes and corned beef hash ever at Howards in Occidental. axis008
http://www.calacademy.org/ Regarding Academy of Sciences: The site's main page says the Rainforests exhibit is closed for maintenance from the 22nd to the 28th of June. That exhibit is the main attraction, so I would try to make it there when it's not closed. -ben

93turbo2
Fort point in the presidio, the legion of honor, you can swing up to sausilito across the golden gate bridge and there's always santa cruz if you feel like traveling a little south.

axis008
SF is apparently known for their food... So let this list help you (or any residents who want to explore) out: http://www.7x7.com/content/eat-drink/big-eat-sf-100-things-try-you-die -ben
SCSpecB
^If you're looking for a killer steak, hit up Epic steakhouse. Its on the same street as, and not too far from, where you catch the ferry to Alcatraz (toward the Bay Bridge). Its pricey, but its worth it. Excellent bar too. dont forget to take your passport, SC is a different country Compared to Sacramento it sure is!
Drew888
All this talk of great places to go is making me seriously home sick. I grew up in SF and only moved to SoCal to chase after my wife (here 15yrs). Me and my two kids will be driving through this Tuesday.
