Removable GPS cubby mount

Recommended Posts

Just wanted show everyone the mount I made for my Garmin Nuvi 650. I wanted something temporary that could be easily removed. I fabricated a plate to match the rubber in the bottom of the cubby. Since there are little slots on the sides and back, I utilized those to hold it in place. It sits flush on top of the rubber. I laser cut it to size using clear acrylic so the suction mount would hold. I plan to run power up to it, but just haven't had the time.

Nice work. I like your design more than my current setup. LINK

I'm working on a new design now so I can tuck the mount in and close the door w/o having to remove anything.

Here's a suggestion on routing the power wire. You can plug the power into center consul and tuck/route the wire inside the passenger side of the center consul.

Then fish up the power wire behind/next to the radio and then into/thru the cubby. If you look at the cubby door in the almost fully open position, there is a gap on the inside top of the cubby where you can squeeze the plug thru.

hanger.....take the black round dash mount with the double sided tape, remove the rubber pad in the cubby, and stick the plate to the bottom center of the cubby. works great. thats how i had mine untill i ripper the cubby out and put the gps inside the cubby. if you dont have one of these dash mounts you can get one anywhere that sells them cheap. (it looks like a huge black coin)

I thought about this, thas why I've hesitated to buy. My idea was to mount an lcd screen here sometimes, and it uses a pretty hefty mount thats not very long so I'd still have to wind up fabbing a mount myself.

you could theoretically tho just buy this one, and then screw pieces together to extend this out far enough to make yours fit.

  • 2 weeks later...

They make a goone neck for it. I have been considering doing same thing.

So my suction bracket elbow isn't long enough/stick out far enough to use suction to the bottom of the pocket w/o removing the door of the cubby...

Need to find a different bracket or on to other options
