Does anyone know where to tap into tach signal at gauge cluster? assuming that is easier.. Installing a ecliptech shift-i and if I can run 12 inches of wire from cluster that sounds better than running 4ft of wire from passenger footwell..

ours as far as I remember only has the one. From off the top of my head the tach signals were either the pink or purple wire. 2 places to tap into. Under steering wheel there is a black box that says something like AT/MT on there you will see the pink wire. There is another tap point behind the tach. I will say that getting to it is a little bit of a fuss but yes there is a point. It would be on the 22pin green connector on the drivers side of the rear gauge cluster.

I'm having a tough time finding the tach wire. I pushed a wire into the connector with the pink wire that's second from the end here, but it doesn't seem to work with the shift light. There's also another pink wire with a silver stripe. Is that pink wire second from the end definitely the tach wire?

According to the service manual, the tach signal is the 3rd wire in (A20), which looks to be a pink wire with silver stripe.
