05-09 5mt transmissions the same?

The transmissions are all about the same from 05-09. There were slight changes in synchro style, the later transmissions being a bit more robust, but gears are all about the same width.

The only difference between the OB and the LGT transmission is the final drive. It's got a 4.44 vs. a 3.90. The shorter final drive (numerically higher) makes the OB trans inherently stronger, however.

With any OB trans, you'll also need the OB rear diff.

I may be wrong but I thought the 05 was the only year that had the 4.4 ratio?:confused:

As far as I am aware, all 05-09 OBXTs have a 4.44 with the LGT ratio gearset (the 3.166 set). The N/A OB has a 4.11 and shorter ratios (the 3.545 set).

I assumed we were talking about An LGT trans, and so I was only talking about the XT trans. I should have clarified.

yeah and LGT had 4.11 not 3.9. the WRX has 3.9 buddy

How about you spend more time doing research, and less time trying to be a condescending know-it-all, buddy.

First, not all WRX's have a 3.9. The ones with 1.1:1 transfer gears have a 3.70 front diff.

Second, only the 05-07 LGT has a 4.11. The 08-09, the one I looked up, has a 3.90.

To the OP, it looks like the only bolt-in for you, would be a 05-07 LGT transmission. Everything else would require a different rear diff, or a rebuild to swap your front diff into the new trans (or their shafts into your trans).

The latter options are likely going to cost more than ordering a replacement for whatever broke and getting it fixed.

07's had the 4.11. 08+ had the 3.90 from what the OM's say.

It could have been a poorly documented split year change, like Subaru did in 03.5 with the WRX.

The first trans you list is for the Forester XT.

No 05-09 MT LGT came with a 4.444 FD.

Here's the million dollar question, will a 06 wrx 5sp drop in a 05 lgt? I know the rear gear would have to be changed. But I can get wrx reman for cheap from a local guy.

It should.

The starter mounts the same, and both use male axles. The output shaft is the same spline count, too.

The WRX trans has a speed sensor you won't use, so don't worry about that.

You would need a WRX rear diff, too.

Rallispec has put out an awesome chart

Transmission ID Chart_Public.pdf

is the file name that I found it under, but I have been searching around for it online again, and have not been able to find it.

So, the 2005LGT has

TY757VBAAB-a 5 speed transmission, with an open front diff, 1:1 center diff, 4.111:1 final drive

and

27020AA050-a R160 w/ Viscous

and the 2006 Impreza WRX has

TY754VW7AA-a 5 speed transmission, with an open front diff, 1:1 center diff, 3.700:1 final drive

and

27020AA050-a R160 w/Viscous

if you want a copy of the chart, is is emailable, or i can send you a link to it on my google docs, shoot me a PM

Cool, that's what I thought, but I wanted to make sure.
