Senseless1
Okay so my 98 LGT has a trans from a 96 outback with a cable clutch conversion. An ex friend of mine did the swap poorly among other things, so I am not sure what all I have, but the linkage for a 98 LGT is not what i see when I look down there. Can I just pick up an 02-05 imprezza setup and swap everything over so I can run new bushings and a short shifter? Specifically I am looking at this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/02-05-Subaru-Impreza-WRX-Transmission-Shifter-Shift-Linkage-Manual-Trans-MT-OEM-/172250631523?fits=Make%3ASubaru&hash=item281af00d63:g:nR8AAOSwM4xXat6W&vxp=mtr I was under the impression that the linkage would be the same as the imprezza anyways. The guy rigged it together with just a bolt and no bushings, so I'm assuming he may have left other parts off or assembled things incorrectly and just want to start over if possible. Senseless1
I actually think this is a cheaper alternative. I have the same linkage as a 95 legacy. Also found some clutch kits here too. https://www.ralcorz.com/product.php?productid=41681&cat=0&page=
scoobydo2.0
The linkages changed between Phase 1 and Phase 2, so the pic from the second post is for a Phase 1 linkage. Your 98 LGT should have a had a Phase 2 linkage and a hydraulic push style clutch slave cylinder.

Your 98 LGT should have a had a Phase 2 linkage and a hydraulic push style clutch slave cylinder. That is correct, however the linkage, trans, and peddle box were switched out to the phase 1 style. I was wondering if I could use the phasr two linkage with the phase 1 transmission.
scoobydo2.0
if you have both assemblies I don't see why it wouldn't work, the linkage attached the same way to the trans regardless of what Phase it is. The Phase 2 linkage will use the same shifter as a GD chassis Impreza which gives you more options for a short throw (new or used).
Senseless1
Hey thanks Scoob! I am going to wait until my trans blows up. At this point the old school shifter is affordable enough that it is the cheapest option right now. It's good to know that I'f I have problems I can just swap over. I know a lot of the compatibility issues encountered on my 2.5 to 2.5 swap were unexpected and created extra work. To this day people will still try to argue with me that the transmission subframe differences don't exist, but they do!
wtdash
I can't see the 2nd pic you posted, but one thing I needed when I used a WRX shifter was this doo-hickey: http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/TIC_OLD_5MT_UPD.jpg Like this: http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/NTQwWDk2MA==/z/LMgAAOSwJcZWg0wu/$_35.JPG?set_id=880000500F
