ForesterXT
I hope the mods will see fit to sticky this, so we can keep it here. I'd like to make a separate thread for this event, so I can keep up on planning and keep track of who's coming to this meet. Set your calendars for an epic driving event on May 13th. It's going to start in Novato, and there will be two groups: 1. Touring and Tasting group - we will have a pleasant drive throughout the Napa Valley, occasional stops at wineries, a lunch break to refresh, and an enjoyable tour of Napa and Sonoma valleys ending between Santa Rosa and Windsor at a BBQ location. 2. Drivers Group - not for the faint of heart, the weak of stomach, or people who believe they are driving fast when they're @ or below the speed limit. This will be an enjoyable quick-paced tour. There will be basic stops for fuel at predetermined locations, a short lunch break (read 30 minutes or less), and a LOT of backroads to be explored. The route itself is still being planned out for the least travelled roads in Northern California including Marin, Sonoma, Mendocino and Lake Counties. This will be for those of you NOT concerned about expending a little fuel while having fun. Because of this, there will be NO STOPS FOR WINE TASTING!! Also, because of safety concerns, please no children (I'll relate the story behind that, if you want to hear it) in the Driver Group. The drivers group will end at the same park for the BBQ, hopefully not too far ahead/behind of the touring group. Anyone who is interested, please email me at: marin.subaru @ comcast . net (remove spaces, of course). There will be a $4 (or maybe $5) parking fee at the park, and a $5/person for the BBQ, to help offset the costs. BTW, this IS open to Subarus of different varieties. I'm catering to the Foresters (obviously by my name) and the Legacies. So far on the list: 1. Go Six 2. daswrx 3. Flanders 4. BKRacer 5. LzyKid4Life 6. CreoSTi 7. MDork 8. RippinRoo Please feel free to post here if you want to be added, or plans change. BTW, for those of you who want a hotel room for Friday/Saturday nights, please let me know early. We're planning on starting the meet around 8am, and after 7-8 hours of driving, you may want to consider a hotel for the night before, and the night of the event, so you don't have too much driving to do afterward. If you need a hotel room, simply call and tell them that you have a group code. The code is: SUBU, and that code will get you in at the group rate. ForesterXT
Call the Inn Marin. Mention "Subaru Weekend Drive", and the rate is $99 per night, with two night Fri./Sat. minimum. Sorry I couldn't do better, but there's a Challenge event at Infineon that weekend, and since we're one of the closest hotels, we're always slammed. The hotel number: 800.652.6565 MAKE SURE TO MENTION "Subaru Weekend Drive" or "Greg's Subaru Meet"...since I work there, they'll get the message. Those staying at the hotel won't have to chip in for the BBQ, though. Your tickets will be given to you upon check-in. I have currently held 5 King bed and 3 (2) double bed rooms for this event. They will set aside more rooms if more rooms are needed, however. The pricing for the group closes on 10 April, so get your reservations in early for best room selection. RippinRoo
Thank you kindly for setting up the hotel rooms (as well as this thread!). Looking forward to the event... pleiad7
Greg neglected to mention that we also might have a special guest participating in this event... someone who knows a thing or two about driving fast on tight twisty roads. http://www.daikin-clutch.com/products/Image-DFE4FA394E2211D9-Ramada%20finish-ben%20bradley.jpg

All I can say is, wow... 400 whp of unbridled fury! My apologies to the driver of the silver WRX on 101 N in Santa Rosa who thought that he/she could keep up... And, he has some experience in a Forester: http://www.subaruforester.org/modimages/roo/racenews04f.jpg Won his class in the Alcan 5000 rally with this Forester. GoSix
Here are my most recent pix of Hwy 1 from two weeks ago. Not exactly driving, though Give a man a beer, and he'll waste an hour. Teach a man to brew, and he'll waste a lifetime.
ForesterXT
We're also considering doing a meet and greet dinner at the Sebastopol Brewing Company the night before, so anyone interested, just pipe up. We're going to have a private room where (if luck holds out), I'll be showing a preview DVD of the roads we'll be on, and some other fun stuff. axis008
What a tease! Too bad it's Subarus only. If you guys have one next year and I have my car, I'll definitely join. I'll be 21, too! Looks like it's going to be a blast. Make sure when you guys go to take lots of pictures so people like me can computer experience it haha. -ben
ForesterXT
I'm hoping to have a DVD available for the quick notes about the drive. We have a private room tentatively set up for the evening before at the Sebastopol Brewing Company which has t.v. available. Beers start pouring around 7pm, (I'll buy the first couple of pitchers), and dinner ordering starts around 7:30. Each pays own, but it's a great restaurant with a good selection of fresh food, and an even better tasting selection of beers (if you're into beer). Flanders
Greg: PM me if you are running the routes this weekend or the weekend after next. As of right now looks like I will be moving to LA at the end of the March. Ned

Flanders
Not to discourage anyone but the roads were pretty rough in some places. I was having so much fun I threw caution into the wind. Apparently it isn't likely that anyone will be any lower than me.

He will be using a Forester XT to lead the group at a nice pace around some good roads in the North Bay.

(I think if I say the word crucial he'll show up ) It IS Crucial that if you're going to drive more than a couple of hours home that you consider taking one of the hotel rooms that we have set up for the group. We've timed it at slightly over six hours of "high energy" driving, and with the BBQ afterward (which we will probably be sharing wine from the touring group), you might not want to drive too far to get back home.
