AndrewCowley
Hi from Australia, I have a 2004 LGT 2.0 turbo and I want to install KW V2 coilovers. Anyone know if they come with top hats or are you supposed to use your existing? I see people have used Spec B top hats. Where do you get those from? Thanks, Andrew Cowley Sydney Australia. compsurge
I believe you use your stock tophats. spec B tophats are used because they are stiffer typically and then a rear "butt sag" spacer is used to compensate for the higher tophat of the specB. You should be fine with stock tophats. Since most of the vendors on this forum are from the USA, you might find a Subaru dealership is the best bet in Australia. AndrewCowley
Thank you compsurge. My car is over 7 years old with 60,000 miles done. Do you think it would be best to change the top hats at the same time I install the new coilovers?
compsurge
Easiest way to tell is to open the hood and see if they are still in one piece! They should be very accessible. The rears are part of the KW strut tower I believe. It would probably be easiest to change at hte time of KW install. I've taken struts in and out before, however. It's not too bad since the hard work was getting the OEM out (as long as you didn't just pay for an alignment!).
AndrewCowley
Will do. Do you mean though that the rears aren't needed to be replaced because they are built into the KW's?
compsurge
From my experience, there is just a hole that they mount into (Only did a Nissan Maxima). http://www.infamousperformance.net/servlet/the-271/KW-Variant-2-Subaru/Detail photo for reference Here is the install of a strut bar, but you can see what I am referring to: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/cusco-rear-strut-brace-install-39330.html Again, easiest way to tell is to check your car by pulling up the carpeting (You'll have to do it anyway). AndrewCowley
Cool, ta. Seems that only the fronts fit into a separate mounting hat. I'll try to source new front hats from somewhere local.
