Roof rack removal

Recommended Posts

Remove your roof rails. Probably going to be some rust under there. Sandblast it if possible. Treat with SystemSampler or Por15. Remove the three rub bars and sand the screw holes to the bare metal. Fill in the holes with glazing compound and block sand, repeat until smooth. Prime. Paint your roof (good time to paint the rest of the car too,).

If you want to remove the rail bolts it's possible, but not easy. They are pinch bolts, so they have been pressed into the holes. You can grind them down and they will fall through the roof leaving a hole. Fill the holes with glazing compound or bondo and sand, repeat until smooth.

I removed my rub bars but kept the rails. I repainted the rails and they look pretty sharp.
