Gone2Tokyo
Hey guys, This may seem silly/rice/awful, but I have been considering painting the parts in the interior of the car that are (plastic) chrome as well as a couple plastic parts that aren't. Here's my vision ala photoshop. http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/9572/sample1yj6.jpg http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/4007/sample2li0.jpg http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/7970/sample3xh1.jpg http://img176.imageshack.us/img176/4317/sample4kx2.jpg http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/8310/sample5ku8.jpg http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/4848/sample6ov1.jpg First off, sorry that they are so small. These were the best I could find. Secondly, what do you think? Thirdly, I would imagine I have to hand paint these parts but I would like them to retain a sheek shiny surface. What kind of brushes/paint/finish would you recommend? If anyone wants any other colors done to see what it looks like, I would be glad to photoshop it for you. axis008
I am not sure I like the red. What color is your car? You could match it. -ben
panamajack
If you do it wrong it will look very bad and cheap. I dont like the red either.
NSFW
I have no opinion on the appearance. But I am curious how you plan to prepare the chromed stuff to get paint to stick. Mostly because I want to paint some chome myself (other parts, other colors, but facing the same problem). My plan is to use a power sander and progressively finer sandpaper, but I'm afraid the chrome will come off in chunks and be impossible to smooth. AKLGT
my previous car, i painted teh silver pieces a dark metallic red. but i had a body shop do it, so we could bake the pieces. it looked HOT! however, it's tough to say from photochop. and yes, getting teh paint to stick on those chrome parts would be pretty difficult. i prefer vinyl. if it looks like crap, you can easily take it off. then again, i can get the stuff pretty damn cheap. *shrug* Wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle wiggle yeah!!! Gone2Tokyo
My car is black, and heres what it looks like matching. http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/1938/sample1oj9.jpg http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/617/sample2fb0.jpg http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/5619/sample3dj7.jpg http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/8101/sample4hg2.jpg http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/3736/sample5ts2.jpg http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/3973/sample6ez0.jpg
Spoonwacker
I'm not sure about that particular color of red, but I say it's your car; do what makes you happy. Something a bit less garish might work better, though... Casopolis did some of his trim in ABP, which I thought looked good. He might have some more advice - thread here: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42104 ~Zach sorry...this forum practically blows goat nuts so im not always on here.Team Pony Express POSTED FROM MY COMPUTER USING A WEB BROWSER
Gone2Tokyo
Thanks Zach! I will look more into that! I am notorious for bad taste and that's why I am trying to get a group voice to help me decide.
NSFW
Anyone got any thoughts on blacking out the A-pillars as well? My best guess would be to remove them and dye them, but I'm worried that it'll look like a first-grader's tie-dye project. Possible threadjack. Or maybe they could be made vibrant red with the same techniques...
Gone2Tokyo
Not a bad idea Let me know how it works out! LOL
zmarko
Since you asked for opinions, I'll give you mine. I think it looks like shit (the red). The black isn't so noticeable. But then again, I've never been in to ricey mods (the DIY grille is the first "visual" mod I've done to any of my cars).
Gone2Tokyo
LOL. Wow whiskey does funny things to me I just woke up looking forward to looking at the pics.... erghhhh! Red is tacky Forget painting all together, car looks dope as it is! I was just bored I guess. I still want to get the red sti on black bg emblem from grafxwerx and I still want paint my front and rear emblems red stars on black bg..... but I think I'll leave the interior I love the look of the black though! I know there is a guy at my local subaru club who does decal work and I wonder if he knows anyone who does paint. I think I would pay to have this done Thanks for stopping me from doing this (although I think I stopped myself once I saw it sober hahaha )

rabydanimal
Umm, eww? No really, I've seen stuff like this on Pontiac Sunfires (shudder). Keep it classy! How are you at painting wood grain?
one69chev
i like the red shift knob, but the red accent on the vents is a little much. i painted my last rides' interior parts, but only the speedo bezel and the radio surrounds. maybe go for a darker shade of red, but get some base coat from napa store and have somebody shoot it and clear it for you. it'll look a lot better than rattle cans........good luck, either way...... hutru01
When done properly, painting your interior can be a very appealing modification to your interior. If done crappy, you might as well throw on a 2 foot wing and some walmart ground effects and blue headlights..... On a side note: I have thought about painting mine to match the outside color of the car (Satin White Pearl)
Spoonwacker
+1 It all depends on the color. The ugliness of this '96 Sunfire, which may be the one the rabydanimal above has seen, cannot be described with mere words: http://custom.autos.yahoo.com/gallery/overview-car-4917 On the other hand, like I said, I like what Lord of the Cubbypod has done with his...:icon_bigg Not sure about white...as an '06, does your SWP car have a taupe interior? That might be alright...black/white would be a bit much... ~Zach sorry...this forum practically blows goat nuts so im not always on here.Team Pony Express POSTED FROM MY COMPUTER USING A WEB BROWSER
Gone2Tokyo
Man that sunfire looks amazing! (sarcasm) Thanks for your opinions guys. I think I will leave it alone for now. I was never disapointed witht he int, just thought it might be something cool to do. Plus it adds 22 hp to the wheels
fweasel
Less is more. I actually think that maybe the radio/shifter controls in red might look okay. But when you start to accent everything, that's were it gets nasty real quick. ignore him, he'll go away.
eldiablo
Oooooh. Paint it to look like the second set of pics. That looks best. Oh wait, it's already painted that way.... leave it be. My VB Garage... Pumping the air back into despair

No it's not. It's chrome. I agree about the comment on painting just certain things red, like the steering wheel accents.
thehikingdude
Glad to hear you had a change of heart. I think it would really cheapen the look. Kind of reminds me of when my wife wanted to paint her car purple. I said "No way in hell." The trade-in value would liklely drop as well. IMO.
