Project BlackOut

Recommended Posts

Purchased my 1998 Subaru Legacy GT Limited last week, and decided to begin the DIY process

ive decided to black out the interior. for a few reasons,

when i got it, it was filthy! and just mainly to update the look

Decided to strip the interior and begin the process with the help of my cuz

after removal of everything, we vaccuumed carpet, then washed carpet with regular laundry detergent, then wet vac'd and let dry overnight

visors and sunroof were spray painted.. due to plastic on visor, and due to less fibers compared to carpet...

you shoud just keep those panels out. all you need is a seat. and wheel.

ha.

but really thats gonna look really really good. is that carpet dyed or sprayed. should spray it 3 times. and each time ruffle the carpet more.

edit: the pic says dye. wow. but still how is it applied.

amp27, I dyed the carpets as the fibers are stronger and longer compared to the headliner, and visors, which I spray painted as the dye stuck...just not dark enough

Zues, The Dye does not smell, however, I share the same concern with the spray paint smell. but they are outside. so Im hoping with time the smell will fade. I also have JDM Tyte Air Freshners (squash) that Im hoping to take away the smell....

I bought Meguiars de-oderizor, as of now the areas i tested it on smell great

no more dog smell from when i first bought the car from previous owner..

A Preview of what the roof may look like

I may spray the headliner with spray paint, as it was done with the fabric dye, however since the fibers are smaller the paint didnt darken much what do you think....?

looks excellent. my previous owner spilled soda on the headliner and carpet...about...hmm...7 times? fried some hvac controls in the process :( but the stains are obnoxious. this is definitely something I'd be in for after suspension comes in!

I went with the satin black for all of the ugly wood grain pieces. It is a little more shinny then the rest but it doesn't look to bad. I think it is a toss up between the flat and satin. I might try the flat this week some time and see how it looks.

This it going to turn out to be really sweet when your done!
