No slipping, smoke, smell etc before it completely stopped working. Literally shifted into gear and felt like I was in neutral. To get the car out of the road, I revved it up, and the car inched forward at 5000+ rpm. Replaced with:FX300 Happy with replacement?: Not installed yet. Mailed the clutch to Clutchmasters, and they "We unable to determine reason for failure". They offered to give me a deal on rebuilding my clutch, but I'm not comfortable putting the same clutch back in, since they don't know what the problem was. Luckily, Mike from Infamous bailed me out and gave me a very good deal on an FX300, since I bought the original from him. Mike being a stand-up vendor as always. I went with the FX300 because many fewer people on here report problems, and Mike recommended it. Fingers crossed... compsurge
CM Clutch Model: FX300 Car TQ: Stage 2 Flywheel: OEM WRX SMFW Chatter experienced?: Yes - slight after 3k How many miles installed for: 32k Reason for removal: No more clutch material Replaced with: FX300 - thanks M Sprank for a good deal! Happy with replacement?: So far, so good. ~230 miles into break-in. I have about ~3k on it as of 7/30/2014 and it seems to be holding up better than my last one. Original likely failed due to improper break in (not enough city style driving) and riding the clutch for smooth engagement. I was very happy with it initially. I will give it a second chance before judgment. I replaced several components as well for the second attempt: new TSK3 TOB, clutch fork, pivot ball, and added the flywheel cover and bellhousing plastic inspection cover both were missing when I bought the car). Salt spray and water intrusion may have had a role in accelerated wear. Carnage pics

PutnamCO
Ended up being a rear axle clip coming off, allowing the axle to move out of the diff just enough to cause a loss of power to all four wheels. Very strange, but that's what happened.

EDIT: if anyone has any insight on me throwing a 07 LGT oem clutch in there....assuming the factory clutch lasted about 90k, this should do the same. All I have done to the car is headers+up, downpipe. Plan on keeping it stage 2. Anyone think I will be disappointed with the oem clutch with these mods? Max Capacity
I do. I would never put a oem clutch back in these cars. Spec 2 It should work with your newly re-surfaced FW. Max Capacity
HAve you ever tried to back up in 3-4" of heavy snow with a stock clutch. My 00'GT wagon and my 05 would smoke the stock clutch doing that. I have no faith in a OEM clutch. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. JermTheElf
Updated OP. Maybe a mod could sticky this so it's easier to find and warn about the issues with these clutches now that we've racked up quite a few cases of the same issue?
