sportwagon
Hello, I have an 05 Legacy 2.5GT with 80k miles and I just replaced the clutch with an ACT HD Street Modified clutch and the WRX flywheel. I have been at stage 1 (cobb OTS version) via an Accessport v1 for a long, long time... Now, I have finally got around to installing an UP/DP, but they were installed at the same time as the new clutch! How long should I wait? I don't want to get the tuning done before the clutch is completely broken in... Yesterday I switched the map (not the base map) from Cobb stg. 1 93 OCT to Cobb stg. 2 93 OCT and did some mild stop and go driving and today I drove to work (mostly highway)... The car felt fine! Also... What should I avoid doing while breaking in the clutch? -Avoid hard launches obviously!-Avoid high boost?-Avoid >3000 RPM?-Avoid stop and go? -Avoid long highway stretches?-Avoid cruise control?-Avoid ???? I'm just not completely sure about what exactly is "good break-in driving for a new clutch" ACT website said ~500 miles for break-in, but was very "vague" It basically said to avoid "aggressive driving"... I'm pretty sure I'll do fine... but figured it couldn't hurt to aks! Also, For some immediate tuning questions: I have many other mods... (I'll post them once I update) Can I get by with the Cobb OTS Stage 2 version for a little while? Is it OK to stay with the Stage 1 base map during the clutch break-in? OR, should I do the stage 2 base map update immediately? Thanks!Mark

rao
Just drive the car normally. If you are very paranoid (and it looks like you are ) wait 500 miles before you do the tuning. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
Spec B
If you are very paranoid (and it looks like you are ) +1 to driving normally, but avoid launching.
sportwagon
well, it's snowing out anyway... so it's probably a good idea to not play around in the snow! I would normally do some parking lot laps on the ride home later tonight! But seeing how this clutch has ~50 miles on it... I'll behave myself! sportwagon
But, really my questions about "clutch break-in" are more common sense answers... The real questions I'm posing are: Is it OK for me to continue to drive "normally" during the break-in period with a STGE 1 base map and STGE 2 real time map? OR Should I change the real time map back to STGE 1 for the remainder of the breakin? OR Would it be best to go STAGE 2 base/real time Maps immediately? Thanks... Beanboy
Really doesn't matter much when the clutch is fully engaged. Maybe if you had 500WHP and stock clutch... What is important is treating it right from a stop. New clutch/flywheel and then miles on dyno tuning a 20G, everything is fine. -B http://www.standardshift.com
j255c
yeah i road tuned my 20g w/ meth about 400 miles onto the clutch no issues. Just dont launch it. Stop and go traffic actually helps break it in quicker. 06 TB EVO IX SE stock turbo monster subaru hater
