Easy, fast and safe way to remove the crank pulley bolt

I used my old belt since I was replacing them but basically the belt gets pinched and the crank doesn't go anywhere when you loosen/tighten the bolt.http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/10/a89986460833e67fa438f3dcc48bde25.jpg

. . .Or, you could just wedge a bar under the frame and crank the engine over, as per the FSM and, the way everyone else does it. You'll still need a bar to loosen that badboy, either way.

This is to keep the engine from turning over while you loosen/tighten the bolt

I like it. clever idea. I use two short 3/8 extensions in the front holes, brace it with a breaker bar and loosen it

Or you could just put it in 5th gear and make sure your hand break is up, then use a breaker bar. I personally don't like the wrapping of the belt or cranking the motor ideas, both could result in belt/tool damage.

There's a reason not many people brace with belts. Plus, it's way more work! Let the car do the work for you!

I have an automatic and I was having a hard time holding the fly wheel.

You really do not want to stress that rubber ring. 2 piece crank pulley, and there are cases where that rubber ring has failed. Stressing it is not a good idea. Really should hold the pulley at those four holes on the inner portion of the pulley.

For a manual this is what I did. I cracked my radiator fan shroud because I wasn't paying attention, but overall pretty easy, safe, and fast.

I just use a Grimmspeed crank pulley tool and two long breaker bars. Pretty straightforward and fairly easy...although I can see where a twig boy would have a hard time with it...

Just lay the breaker bar against the ground, and bump the starter, works great. I did put a piece of plywood next to the radiator, but did't need it.

Remove the inspection plug at the top of the bell housing, carefully hold the flex plate or flywheel with a suitable pry bar.
