Rubix973
I dont have adobe so I cant download those documents. Anybody want to give me some brief cliff notes on it? Basically, is synthetic good, bad, or doesnt matter for subies?
FishPoo
It's basically good things. And btw, it's quite simple and free to download Adobe Reader. Adobe - Adobe Reader Download - All versions It's more like an advertisement... partnership between Subaru and Mobil1 to justify the advantages of using synthetic oil, while they are true on the basis in the ad, it's still up to you. schwinn
deltree C:\WINDOWS Seriously, though, clear out some crap. Assuming it's a windows box, try emptying your Internet Explorer's Temporary Internet Files... that fills up ALL the time, regardless of where you set the slider bar. Under the Advanced tab in the Internet Options, there is a selection for "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed"... turn that on, so it doesn't keep the crap that it never uses anyway. Secondly, check C:\WINDOWS\TEMP for junk (usually you can simply delete that stuff), empty the recycle bin. There are a few other places to clear out, but this should get you going. I've done all this already. Oh and the porn is backed up on CD. I have 4000 songs in my itunes library and my laptop only has a 20GB hard drive. So basically I have my music and my web browser, what else do you REALLy need though. This is completely OT but my computer issues should be resolved next month when I purchase my new Apple. Bye-bye windows. See ya never. Thanks for the tips anyways.
Vimy101
7500 mile change coming for me on Monday. Full synthetic. The amount of heat thrown off by the turboed boxer amazes me. I'm going to pop the hood and open the door right now. The heat soak can't be good.

SuperhawkLGT
I usually go 5k with my olf with Mobil 1. Anyone catch the article that compared Royal Purple to Mobil 1? 5 more HP with the Royal Purple. Looking for the link now. Welcome to Corvette Enthusiast <<here<< Can't get to the article but the RP got 3.8 more HP and 4.8 more FT/LBS under the exact same conditions on the dyno. Not a ton but pretty good for just changing your oil.
krzyss
Is it single run result? If I am not mistaken each run can present different results, even if nothing is changed. Somebody would need to run a series of tests to claim difference. Krzys
snoman
I think that looks like one big "Mobil 1" advertisement rather than a statement from Subaru. "Mobil 1 is recommended fill in all Subaru vehicles, and other incredible automobiles." Who is recommending that you use Mobil 1 in your Subaru? Exxon Mobil? Garandman
That's Subaru Canada. SOA has a different take, apparently: http://legacygt.com/forums/naturally-aspirated-powertrains-2/28397-official-soa-pronouncement-synthetic.html Yes, you can use synthetic oil in your Subaru. If you do use synthetic oil, we would recommend that you always use it in your engine because your engine will become accostomned to it. The same goes if you decide to use 'regular' oil. Synthetic oils can be used in our engines if the user follows the engine oil recommendations prescribed in the owner's manual. Subaru has not tested the compatibility of all syntthetic oils with engine seals, but the petroleum industry does adhere to standards for refining process which meet Subaru requirements. Subaru does not guarantee the performance of any brand of engine oil. Engine oil guidelines: - only use engine oil that meets or exceeds API classification designated in the Owner's Manual for the vehicle. - only use engine oil that meets the VISCOSITY requirements for the ambient temperatures under which the vehicle will be operated as outlined in the Owner's Manual - THE ENGINE OIL MUST BE CHANGED AT INTERVALS SPECIFIED IN THE WARRANTY AND MAINTENANCE BOOKLET FOR THE VEHICLE. SOME SYNTHETIC OIL REFINERS RECOMMEND EXTENDED OIL CHANGE INTERVALS SUBARU DOES NOT RECOMMEND DEVIATION FROM THE SPECIFIED INTERVALS IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. Thank you blah blah blah... John J. Vimy101
Synthetic oil is more stabile. Period. It is superior because it resists chemical breakdown under high temps and pressure.

Vimy101
Got the second oil change/service in at 7498 miles today. Mobil 1 5-30. I took it to my excellent local garage. I like to do my own PM but one of the reasons I like my local guys is that they let me hang out and ask questions so I thought I'd see how the pros would deal with the infamous oil drain gusher. I warned their assistant who was doing the change and he was still surprised. LOL! I stood back and still almost got some on me. I'm going to have to get that Fujimoto whatever valve. The assistant took some box pliers to the filter and almost burned himself. One of the pop in screws was missing from the access hatch. Credit to the board for being so accurate when describing the boxer's oil change idiosyncracies. BTW, Autozone is selling 5 quarts of Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter "Oil Change Special" for $35. Good deal.
