yet another battery drain thread

Recommended Posts

Yes I searched, bite me

While my battery is charging, I'll post for suggestions.

Since I've been working on my car a lot, I've developed battery issues.

I first noticed it taking 2-3 days to where I couldn't start it, now its about 8hrs.

The battery is an Optima Yellow Top, new in March '12.

-shows 12.7v with the key off after charged/driven

-shows 12.7v after 72hrs unplugged from the car and it will start when plugged back in.

-shows 12.38v after 24hrs plugged into the car after being fully charged, but will not start.

-everything I have added lately has fuses pulled for the above.

Now, I haven't had time to perform the current drain test, and once it charges some I am going to get the battery tested. But I would still like suggestions? I am not looking forward to tracing this issue if the battery is okay.

Anyone?

Yeah. I plan on checking everything one of these days. Its just odd, it wouldn't start earlier with it showing 12.38v and 11.xx after trying. Seems like the battery is bad but if I disconnect the ground for a few days, it will still start

I've had a redtop in my truck for like 3 years with no problems, but I dont have any accessories, heater, or drains whatsoever so I believe that helps...

But I have heard of at least 8-10 Optimas going bad among ppl I know, maybe just a coinsidence?
