Hi guys,

I am looking at the moment into buying a new family car and love the Legacy and the Outback. I was wondering if there was a particularly good year between 2000 and 2004, since I got 6k that I could invest.

thx

Obviously, the more you got to spend the nicer you can get. If you do not mind about 100K miles you should be able to find a pretty nice one for $6k, but you may have to travel to get it depending on where you live. Even with 100K, if they were taken care of they are good for many more miles. Not aware of anything mechanically that would make any year 00 - 04 better or worse, more important is the condition of the particular car you are looking at. If you live in cold country the cold weather package (heated seats/windshield/mirrors) is real nice, available all years.

Below is a link of 00-04s that have recently been on eBay to give you an indication of what people are willing to pay. The bid prices in green are the ones that have sold:

if your getting a 2000-2004 you should know that alot of them blew head gaskets externaly it may not cause it to overheat but you will see black residue on the bottom of the head where it meets the block. if it were me i would find an LL BEAN (H6) and go with that. if it has front oil leaks that is kinda expenisve to have fixed but you should have the most reliable combo for 2000- 2004
