I tried to do this yesterday....but I cant find any LED's that would work.

Pilot seems to have discontinued those lights--I was at 2 Auto Zones, 2 Advanced Autos, O'Rielly's, and NAPA. O'Rielly's is trying to order them, but they couldn't find them in-stock anywhere in the country.

Radio Shack doesn't have anything in 12v.

Where are you guys finding wired L.E.D.'s?? Everything I find is to plug into cigarette lighter.

I asked for the part number that was in the picture that was in your write up at an O'Rielly's. They pulled up the exact part in your picture, and said it wasn't available anywhere in the country. But that they would try and order it for me.

I also googled the part number and went to the Pilot website and couldn't find it.

The inter-web > me

No prob. I liked those since they have the mounting ring. FYI, I have not ordered these yet and have not done the mod.

I have not measured the diameter of the opening in the cup holder to determine if a 5mm fits. The others choice is 3mm but I have not found one with the mounting hardware.

Has anyone made this measurement?

Took a chance and stopped at a Pep-Boys...sure enough, they had them. Funny the regional differences in inventory at the various auto parts stores.

Question on the actual install:

Put in the LED's and scotchloks to combine red/black wires to one red, one black.

Using another set of schtchloks to go from purple to purple and red, and black/silver to black/silver and black, from the passenger side heated switch wires.

Nothing. What did I do wrong?

(I tried splicing into the black/yellow as well and that didnt work either)

Are you checking to see if they are working with you running lights are turned on? They way you are wiring this the only way these lights get power is if your interior lights are also powered. Simple I know, but I've done this recently and wondered why things weren't working. Duh! Sometimes we get so close to a proiject and forget to just step back and just turn on the power.

yeah, I made sure to turn on my headlights and confirm the seat heaters were illuminated.

So if it sounds like my wiring was right I either have defective led's or my scotchloks were not giving me a good connection.

Ill try it again this weekend. Maybe ill splice/solder the wires instead.

I'm not big fan of using scotlocks for wires that small. Before you lock everything down twist the wires together and test and see if the lights work. Also, I like to use those wire taps for adding a wire into an existing curcuit. They are very effiecient and secure. You might even try reversing the wires on your lights. Sometimes LEDs have diodes in them that only let electricity flow one way. Maybe you have them wired backwards. Just thoughts.

alrite you guys, just did this mod - took me about 2 hrs since i was pretty meticulous about the wiring and making sure that everything was sealed together pretty good.

i used this as a guide, but i realize that this mod may be a tad vague for beginners.

anyway, i did this for a 2010 and damn the clear ring made it look pretty bomb at night :)

anyway here are pics + some add ons to the OP's instructions.

hopefully this will take off some anxiety off people that are scared of tapping into existing wires or what not

aside from the household tools i used (scissors and some leftover wire) this is all you'll really need if you wanna go hardcore and solder everything together - these 3 things cost me like $8...if u wanna just ghetto tape everything up - then i guess e-tape LOL

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/stupidaznmunkey/IMAG0586.jpg

i decided to shave the LED with a nail polish (the step 1 2 3 4 that makes your nail shiny HAHAHA) and it helped with the spacing issue of the LED+LED holder in the 2010 model leggy

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/stupidaznmunkey/IMAG0587.jpg

as you can see, the spacing is kind of an issue - especially since the clear ring is where the OP had his LED holder put...so i got creative

yummm heres that clear ring that everyones jealous of :)

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/stupidaznmunkey/IMAG0591.jpg

so here i am getting ready to solder it all up!

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/stupidaznmunkey/IMAG0592.jpg

ehh good enough LOL

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/stupidaznmunkey/IMAG0593.jpg

okay so i pretty much sealed the top and bottom up of the enclosure and stuffed it with cotton - it helps keep everything in place and i made sure that the LED stayed in place and yepppp :)

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/stupidaznmunkey/IMAG0594.jpg

cotton stuffing!

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/stupidaznmunkey/IMAG0595.jpg

so just cleaning everything up and making sure the wiring is clean

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/stupidaznmunkey/IMAG0596.jpg

i tied up my wires with some original ones because there still is a moving shifter so i dont want my wires to get tangled up in that - so its safe to just route with the original wires :)

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/stupidaznmunkey/IMAG0597.jpg

alrite so the OP had a 2nd post of him tapping into the 2nd wire - well i just looped my wire and routed it behind the purple wire of the brown connector (passenger side seat warmer) and just e-taped it up so it wouldnt move.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/stupidaznmunkey/IMAG0599.jpg

similar tactic with the black wire - i decided to be lazy and just wire the negative into this socket because it was available but the purple wire was so the cup holders would light up with everything else - and not when the car is put into position 2 (which is when the 12v socket turns on)

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h120/stupidaznmunkey/IMAG0601.jpg

here we go!

I'm thinking the same thing, that the scotchloks were not getting a good connection. I'm going to attack this again on Saturday. First step will be to solder the two red/black wires together, then strip and twist together to the harness to make sure it works before I solder that.

I had already tried switching the wires, thinking maybe the red/black might have been reversed in the manufacturing process--no luck.

Thanks though. This really shouldn't bet this hard

I used silicon sealant because I couldn't find my hot glue gun. Holds it in nicely.

Sorry...

I don't mean to belittle you, but I got a good laugh from this comment.

LED = Light Emitting Diode

So yes, current will only flow in one direction.

You also need to ensure you don't over-power the LEDs or they will burn out prematurely.

This should help everyone:

We haven't found that the ring has a sepperate number. It comes as part of the factory lighting kit. I wish it did, it looks so much better with it.

Too bad. I don't really want to spring for a full 2010 cupholder for a 2$ plastic ring and I don't really feel like dropping considerably more on the lighting kit when I know there's got to be part numbers out there.

Its fine Todd, I see that it is a silly statement. I made it and didn't think it all the way through. Too much typing, not enough thinking.

Thanks!
