Hey guys just found out that the chrome is pretty easy to peal when you find its weakness.

Just pull with an Xacto in the inner edge and make your way all aroundhttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/11/9b6cba87219a25282dca6e89aa9d8b24.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/11/a368e9626fdb6c3c9ab0a462dbde3471.jpghttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/11/11/a5014fdcd03cd962abdc545a4cee941e.jpg

Edit: Ok looks like it worked well on this 2005 grill but I tried on another grill (2006) and it's not that easy. The chrome looks thinner.

Chrome off :

im actually starting to redo mine i pulled it all apart. Primer and paint were not bonding to the chrome so i removed it like above. Going to set it back in so it has a little lip this time should be a little easier the second time around.

Just use ferric chloride to etch the chrome off the plastic. Easy.
Obligatory 'build thread' Increased capacity to 2.7 liters, still turbo, but no longer need spark plugs.

Well I made the mistake and didn't remove the chrome and it caused the paint to crack and chip off. Also i glass beaded the whole thing to bring it down to bare plastic because whatever they coat these grills with started to lift after my father painted it. So this time around i removed the chrome and stripped the whole thing down. I also set it back a little. Now i just need to fix it in place and start the fun of sanding and some filler/bondo.

What is it with you guys and peeling? Ferric chloride will remove the chrome from plastic with no effort whatsoever. ;)
