Light bar for OB 05+

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I'm gauging interest in a light bar for the 05+ OB. The same light bar may work on the standard Legacy.

This bar is in concept stage only and waiting on interest to begin production.

The goal is to design a bar that will appeal to a broad range of owners and to keep the price around $250.

Please excuse my photochop... but something like this.

Cheers!

Interesting, but....

what about front plate? With this bar it will be hidded and that can cause some legal issues in some countries....

Regarding allocation of lights - these should be lifted upwards for better performance ( IMHO).

Don't know if we can do much about the legality of using light bars. In my area, as long as your lights are covered during normal driving, you won't have issues.

I'll be working on different designs and configurations.

Cheers!

I'd be game if it fit Legacy GTs - especially if it could work with a skid guard for the front lip, like what Rally Innovations has for Imprezas, and the aluminum skid plate from RalliTek. I need something to complement my RallyArmor flaps :icon_mrgr

I just had a fun evening in snow-covered grass fields and gravel parking lots, so you'll forgive me if I'm forgetting the Petter Solberg doesn't actually drive a Legacy...let alone an automatic...

I did some digging around with the search button...I found this thread, which links to this site, which sells big ol' bars that look mean and lift the lights up above the license plate mount. Personally, I'd like something a bit more subdued (I don't think the big fat bars suit the Legacy), but somebody may like these.

Regarding the legality, I think he was talking about how the bar would obstruct the front license plate that about half the states in the U.S. require, not the issue of having offroad lights on your car.

Personally, I'm like to find a bar that wrapped around and protected the front headlights, but was still not too big and kind of low-key. Still looking...

If you're going to build a bumper.. you've got to go all out :icon_mrgr

For the OB i was thinking something along the lines of...

http://legacygt.com/forums/vbpgimage.php?do=full&p=2428&d=1166134635

But.. thats just a quick drawing, of course i'd have to find some mounting points, and make some real measurements :icon_wink

and.. it'd most likely be black :icon_bigg

Why use a light bar? I did this:

Much neater & cost me around AUD$30 to have the metal bent & drilled.

The reason there are two parts to the construction (6mm steel painted black & 6mm aluminium) is that the steel brackets were off my GEN3 Liberty & the new IPF 900 lights needed to sit further out to clear the bonnet.

The whole construction is very, very sturdy. Unless you brace that light bar, it's shake like a b!tch.
