Got pulled over for not coming to a COMPLETE stop at a red light before turning right. It was midnight. There were no other cars at the intersection at all. There was just me and I rolled through at like 5 mph and BAM. WTF, where were you yesterday when a teenage girl ran a stop sign and almost t-boned me? Or how about every 5 minutes that somone passes me going 20 over? Or how about all those times people make rights on red without slowing down at ALL, and do it in front of oncoming vehicles? Huh? Why the hell is it that I am the one that gets pulled over for doing it at 5 MPH when it's perfectly reasonable? I hate cops. If someone rolls through a red in a busy intersection, sure, by all means, pull them over. But seriously there was NOONE else out there. He couldn't even tell me how much the fine was. Oh, gee, thanks dude. Would be nice if you had at least considered if my actions were worth however much I am going to be ass-raped by. Nice to know. Oh, this kid did it in the middle of the night with no-one around. Let me make sure he's not going to have to pay $900 for this before I write him a ticket.

Ugh. End of rant.

try contesting it by mail. i think its called trial by declaration. depends on where you live though. i live in L.A and the cops are too lazy to write a letter back to the courts and most of the time the case gets dismissed. its worth a shot.

I'll have to see how much the fine is before I decide if it's worth the fight (has yet to show up in their online system.)

It just sucks. There are a bajillion rich-ass kids driving around this college town in brand new cars, spending their money at the bars every night, and here I am stuck here this summer, 450 miles away from all my friends and family, NOT for summer class sessions but because I am working 40 hrs a week, which is just enough to cover my rent/utilities/insurance/keep my old 236k mile station wagon going/gas/food with maybe a little left over to do nothing much with, and it just pisses me off, that's all.

Wow, you can tell I'm annoyed, lol.

i got raped by a honda doing 38 in a 50 so i passed and got a ticket at the light @ 54 kilometers per hour, and it was a photo radar camera. which is RIDICULOUS being only 4 over

Its not worth a fight, you gotta realize you got caught and just pay, theres a system and you have to just outsmart it,

Some people have hit little kids by not stopping at a stop sign,

so in a sense the cops weren't really not doing there job..

I've been in a pile of shit and its ussualy only myself to blame ;)

And you got owned because there on there quota, cops WILL only pull you over when u do something bad, like the examples you said, except if its the end of the month or period and there low on there quotas, they will TICKET you for anything!! thats what happened to you, the cop was probably sorry about it to but had to.

But keep your head up bra at least your working for your own stuff!

everyone i work with even has had there cars bought and paid by there parents, a 19 year old drives a 2009 bmw 135i and i hate that little bastard... not only for that reason though. but these kids arent going to appreciate or accomplish as much having everything handed to them

My wife got pulled over for doing 63mph in a 45mph zone. She was speeding because she was in labor on her way to the hospital....Cop still wrote her a ticket. Kinda messed up huh?

Ugh. I just looked it up - it IS a 3 point violation. What am I supposed to do, like go to court and be like, PLEASE, can I not have the points?!? What do people do when they "fight" like this, I never understood. Clearly I'm not going to go in there and be like, "I didn't do it."

EDIT: We have a campus lawyer included in our tuition. I dunno if he's here during the summer, but I guess I'll go talk to him.

first, contrary to popular belief. cops dont have "Quotas". so before you say your best friends girlfriends dads brothers adopted childs real dad is a cop and you say he said they do have a quota, theyre lying. im in the police academy now, trust me, it just gives them an excuse for setting up more speed traps at the end of the month.

secondly, most cops dont know the fines for the tickets they write not because theyre lazy or dumb, its because the cities change their fines all the time and they tell the cops not to worry about keeping up on it. thats why theres a number on every ticket that the cops will tell you to call to set up a court date or find out how much it is.

and third the reason he pulled you over is cause(not saying you would do this) but what is going through his head is "if he did that this time, whats stopping him from doing it when the road is busy"

you have to understand that not everyone sleeps at night. some people work 3rd shift. and most of them dont work 7 days a week, they have nights off, but they stay up all night to keep on their sleep schedule. so what happens when you are about to turn right on red, which way do you look? to the left, right? what if a 3rd shift person had off that night and decided to go for a walk. and they did see you at first cause they thought the same thing you did "its midnight, whos out" and didnt look before crossing cause they had the right of way anyway, and youre looking the other way and you hit them.....then what?

honestly if i was patrolling in your town and saw you do that, i would pull you over. depending on your driving record i would give you a writen warning, not a ticket, and put it in the system, but i would definatly pull you over.

oh and the wife in labor thing. labor or not, its still speeding, next time either call an ambulance of call for a police escort. they do actually do that. i have a few cop friends that have done that for people so they didnt have to pay for an ambulance to be dispatched. and being in labor is the worst time to speed, what if you crashed?

if you have a clean record, you can take it to court, plead guilty but ask since your driving record is clean, that you can pay the fine but with no points. unless you have a bad record(criminal or driving), or your mayor is just a total prick, they will allow you to do that.

Well, let's clear one thing up. I was moving 5 mph. That gave me plenty of time to look left, right, left, and left again because the left side you can't see cars coming from too far away. I'm not an idiot, and the intersection is well-lit. I'm not about to run a red light blindly without looking. I AM a safe driver, which is what sucks, because I drive more safely than 90% of the people on the road, but of course I'm the one who gets the ticket. Clearly the cop had a right to pull me over, I just think given the circumstances he could have let me off with a warning... or something more minor that doesn't involve points.

Anyway, talked with the campus lawyer, turns out if I go to court I can say I want to take the driver improvement class. 8 hour class on one day on weekend. Take that, then as long as I don't get another ticket in 6 months, the whole thing goes away, points, fine, everything. Just pay $60 for court costs and $60 for the class. So that's not too bad.

well theres 2 sides to every story. not arguing by any means, but i bet the cop would say you blew right through it.

He probably would. But I didn't.

also. if you looked left, right, left, left. how did you not see the cop?

Cop was not in the intersection. Cop was hiding in the gas station at corner I assume, because next thing I know I had a car tailgating me, and then I was like crap no cop gets that close unless they pull you over. Honestly, I didn't even think he pulled me for that. The road is 25 mph and I was going 30, and I thought that's waht it was. When he said 'do you know why I pulled you over' I said cause I was going 5 over? When he said no, I was like, 'uhhhh, did I not come to a complete stop at the intersection?' It was so minor I didn't even think that's what it was for.

also the thing about paying for court fees at least around us you dont have to pay for the court most of the times the cops will not show up weather or not its worth there time

but your ticket includes court fees and also in less you have a good lawer i would suggest going with one they appoint because they usually have the most experience doing that sort of thing and are free

good luck with it man

when you set a court date, the cop doesnt have to show up for your plea. if you plead not guilty, they set another court date in which the cop is required to show up no exceptions. and its always worth it to them because it counts as overtime.

i wonder how many points i have..

where can i check?

bmv 8 bucks

One way that a lot of my friends and family have gotten away with rolling through a stop sign and being pulled over is... When the cop comes up to your car act oblivious to anything you have done. When he asks for your registration and insurance say you only have your registration, cops in Idaho jump on a person not having proof of insurance so they immediately write a ticket for that because it costs more than rolling through a stop sign. Once you get the citation just go to court house a few days later, show them you have your proof of insurance and BAM everything is like it never happened. The insurance citation is basically a fix it ticket, you have a certain amount of days to show you have proof of insurance before you actually have to pay the fine.

That really sucks that you got pulled over though! At this point take the class, you will be much better off than taking the hit on your insurance.

at least you didnt get a 380 dollar ticket last weekend while on highway 65 at 11:55am in a red subaru car(cop to lazy to right sedan)

my ticket: speeding. how fast? he just wrote 95 to keep it simple. so he kinda give me a break. he must of had a soft spot for Subarus and he thought and i knew i could of got away cause he had to weight for like 35 cars behide him to pass. I was on the side of the road like a mile down waiting for him to catch up cause i knew it was me.

OP, it's midnight and cops are looking for drunk drivers. Prime time for a stop for a traffic infraction with the cop's hope of a bonus. It's called police discretion. They could stop you during the day for the same thing but they usually don't, but at night it's a different story with everyone coming home from the bars.

Do what you want with the ticket, but that's the rational. From the cop's perspective, it makes sense.
