New member from UK needs audio system help

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, hoping you can help me to decide how best to improve the sound system in my 2008 Legacy. I've sought advice from a number of local audio specialists here in the UK and received conflicting advice.

By chance I came across a 2008 thread on the NASIOC forum about Subaru fitting a Harman Kardon amplifier and speakers for the 2009 Legacies in the US, but retaining the old head unit. It occurred to me that it might be possible for me to obtain the HK units and fit them to my HU, which looks to be identical to the one in the photo in the NASIOC thread. Does anyone know whether this is possible or indeed how much of an improvement it would make? Subaru UK are no help-Subaru are tiny in the UK, and not interested in anything out of the ordinary, so thought I'd ask you chaps. The UK Legacy forum is dominated by owners of older turbo'd models, so there wasn't any interest in my problem there either.

I hope you can help and I would be grateful for any replies, even if they rule the idea out-at least I can then move on.

Regards

Keith

"You just buy the HVAC single unit and install the Double DIN of your choice...endless opportunities from there !!"

Thanks, Fildigger, there's plenty there's to be going on with there, but I'd actually prefer at this stage to retain the original HU, just for the look of it. Do you, or any other member of the forum, know if the later amp and speaker set up can be installed in the 2008 model imported into the UK?

It might help if someone could tell me whether US Legacies are imported fully assembled or whether any parts such as the audio system are sourced in the US and installed there.

Thanks

Keith
