My 2006 spec.B 271/500 Thread

Recommended Posts

Hi, all, I recently acquired the car with 97k on the odometer, from Paul at FW Motorsports in Sacramento, CA; it was his wife's car. CarFax reveals that I'm the 6th owner, and that the first owner was in a collision and totaled it with 7500 miles. The car was thereafter rebuilt and resold by a dealership, and regularly serviced at dealer by all its subsequent owners (except Paul, of course, who put in an STi motor & Perrin exhaust).

Here are photos of the car prior to my purchase of it.

And yesterday, I spent most of the day and evening cleaning the interior. I just wanted to see what I had, because I really disliked how natty and dull this interior looked.

But I started to really like this car as the gooey steering wheel came clean and showed itself. This car is really stunning, cleaned up.

Plans for the car:

TD04HLA-19T twinscroll kit (purchased from Underdog)

SPT exhaust

Cobb AP

The car already has STi "pink" springs, Whiteline rear swaybar w/Kartboy endlinks, and an aftermarket front strut bar (not sure of the brand, maybe Cusco). I also acquired a very nice set of gold Brembo calipers. But I'm thinking this car is just fine without them (and the wheels I'd have to buy to fit over them).

I had the twinscroll kit installed at MZM Performance in Austin, TX, along with SPT exhaust and a Cobb AP. There's come clutch slippage but still yielded 207 whp and 276 wtq on a Mustang dyno ("weather compensated" from 214 hp and 287 tq).

Those 06 spec.B wheels are my favorite OEM wheels from the legacy's. I want to pick up a set eventually to have as back up wheels/possibly winter wheels. Car looks good sub'd to see more!

2005 Vader Wagon

Material Tests on Ringland Failure Piston

I should have held off and purchased a wagon instead of the spec.B

I could use the benefit of experience regarding my intended suspension & brake upgrade. I'm in the process of acquiring parts and desire to keep the OEM 18" wheels. Here's a list of parts I already have:

STi Brembo F&R calipers (presently being powder-coated silver);

STi lateral links w/camber adj. bolt;

Whiteline F&R swaybars/endlinks;

Whiteline KCA313 tie rods (bump-steer correction);

Whiteline W0506 & KCA334 (anti-lift) LCA bushings.

Parts I don't have yet:

STi Pink F&R springs (2033021010 / 2038021000) on order through EDO;

STi strut tower brace;

SPT lower chassis brace;

DBA rotors

KNS rear brake adaptor kit & parking brake shoes

225/40/18 tires

I hope to align the car with @ 1.4 deg camber in front, 1.0 deg camber in rear.

I've searched these forums and can't quite confirm what size spacers I can use to make this all work together. (I'm leaning toward the H&R 3025560 15mm kit with studs.) As stated above, I wish to keep these beautiful wheels. Any input would be appreciated.

As far as getting those original floor mats with the red piping,,I'd ask Mona Lisa,,,,her picture is just about as rare.

It must be me in my thinking but the upgrades normally poured on to these cars in my opinion serves very little purpose because the weight to horsepower is quite sufficient and unless your going to a track ,,,,,what's the purpose,,,,to throttle up and hear it,,,I have one #-18 and once I did 141 MPH on the Pennsylvania Turnpike easily I might add ,,but where else can you exploit the capability of even whats originally installed.Ive bought 4 mats to cover my original one and you may have to go to a Hong Kong Tailor to get a pseudo original....

I agree with your take on mods, especially to a limited edition car. But in the case of this one, it was wrecked and salvage-titled by the first owner at 7k miles. So it's not a museum piece; rather, I'm the 7th owner, and the car now has 108k, about 9k miles driven between me and my girlfriend since purchasing the car 9 months ago. Still, I'm trying to keep the mods as much Subaru OEM as possible.
