lgt6969
My car has been idling very roughly lately. The engine shakes and the roughness on cylinder 2 on my Accessport has read up to 24. All the spark plugs were changed and I switched the coil pack on cylinder 2 with cylinder 1 and the misfire did not follow. There is oil consumption but it has been there since I purchased the car. The only thing I have not checked are the injectors.
Dcb122580
You should do compression and cylinder leak down tests.
m sprank
Move the injector too. A compression test is all that needed if a ringland is bad.
Lardo420
does your car smoke on startup?
lgt6969
My car doesnt smoke on start up but it has been running very rich lately causing the exhaust tips to become blacker than usual. To add to the symptoms, I did smell something electronic burning on my way home a few days ago while I was stopped at a red light. I still havnt gotten a check engine light from the misfires. I went and bought a compression tester and cylinder 2 came to 110 on the first try then 90 for 3 times in a row after that. cylinder 1 was about 120. I didnt check the cylinders in the rear yet. Check that your rear O2 sensor wire isn't getting burned on the downpipe....
m sprank
Is the TB held wide open wile running the compression check? It needs to be. Also need number on all 4. 120 is not that bad. 110 is getting low. If 120 on 3 of them and 110 on 1 you are ok. If you actually have a cylinder at 90, it is bad.
SSpeed
Also, where are you at? If you are at any sort of altitude it will significantly lower your compression test numbers....
OutbackXT05
I had rough idle too. Did a compression test and mine was 131-129 on 1,2,3 and on #4 it was 50. The odd part was my number 2 walls were lightly scored and the ringland had completely broke 1/3 of the diamater of the piston but not compression lost. OutbackXT05
^^^that's crazy! v What was #4 like? #4 had 6-7 cracks on it. It was all still together but there were too many cracks on it to hold compression unlike the number 2.
VermontGT
Take heart, young Jedi! My misfire and low compression (90 psi cyl 4) turned out to be a burnt intake valve. It could only be pretty expensive to fix vs. extremely so.
