Check rear end fluid?

Recommended Posts

You can lift the car by putting a floor jack under the differential, however, you check the fluid by removing the top (fill) plug while the car is level. Use a 1/2" drive ratchet to remove and if diff oil slowly comes out of the filler hole, put the plug back in and you're good to go. If all you are doing is checking the fluid, don't even use a jack. You shoud be able to reach that plug with the car on the ground. If you must jack it up, be sure to use jackstands for safety.

Tried a 1/2" drive, but it was loose in the plug, so didn't push it.

How about lifting the car in general, change tires, check brake pads, etc. I noticed a point just to the center of the car from the scissor jack lift point. There is a frame and just forward is a triangle plate which ties the A frame of the wheel to that point.

Don't want to lift and damage the car.
