king_j
Just as the title states, does temp matter?
apexi
The subaru service manual I'm looking at says to wait to check until the engine cools. Personally I check it first thing in the morning when my car is cold.
Max Capacity
Cold. Make sure the car is on level ground, same for checking the oil weekly and topping it off as needed. You also need to jack up the rear of the car when you change the gear oil or you won't get it all out. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. iNVAR
Very important to check on level ground. Even the slightest angle can throw off the reading.
king_j
Seems to run smoother when I had too much fluid in there. Any reason for this? Used extra s.

GTTuner
I agree, fill to the H when hot (not the dot) and it does feel buttery. Forget the Extra s / Royal purple mixes, go straight extra S.
