Minahands
I have purchased a a metra head unit chassis to replace the one that was previously in my car. http://i.imgur.com/l4h7v7B.jpg However the wiring has me confused. I have the appropriate harness for the wiring loom however there are two wires (grey and black) that go directly into the head unit and cannot be removed. I am not sure if these are power cables or antenna. http://i.imgur.com/tQq6tnT.jpg There is also a grounding wire which feeds back into the loom which I'm assuming will no longer be needed. Also a lack of an antenna input. http://i.imgur.com/J42GY6r.jpg?1 The head unit that I'm installing in the car is and Alpine CDE-143BT. However I'm not sure how I should be removing the original head unit since it is wired in. And once I do have it out where do I get an antenna signal from? The head unit model number is Kenwood GX-201KNF2. SVXdc
The gray and black "wires" are actually dual coax AM/FM antenna cables. The gray plastic block is a junction between the car's antenna plug and the radio's antenna socket. See this thread for pictures and info. Your radio's cables are not as long -- that thread shows a newer model (2010-up). But your car's connector is identical. Do not pull the coax wires! You need a Subaru antenna adapter -- Aerpro APA52, Metra 40-SB10, or similar. You don't need the long version. The Metra dash kit was intended for LHD cars. You'll need to do a little extra work for your hazard switch (same as what people with LHD cars with automatic climate controls must do to install the JDM HVAC dual-DIN kit). Minahands
Thank you, I preemptively bought that metra cable anyway incase I had to splice into one of the wires. Glad I don't have to. I'll reattempt this when the cable gets here and report back.
