Plug n Play Aux-in mod for 2005 6cd radios

I was able to route my cable underneath the ciggarette ashtray. I always have my radar detector plugged in so that little compartment is always open for me anyway. At first it'll look like you won't be able to fit the RCA cable heads through but if you work it through it'll fit. I then use the cigarette lighter in my armrest as a iPod charger with the iPod hanging out in my cupholder spot. I may switch this up if I choose to do a more permanent install of my radar detector, but for now it's pretty sweet!

Jazzy,

wasn't ticked at all about the availability/backorder (hope I didn't come off that way). I am just chomping at the bit to get my ipod up and running in the subi and you have the best solution. What is it that my parents always said to me and I find myself saying to my son..... "Patients is a virtue..." or is it "good things come to those that wait". Keep me posted on any ETA you might have.

Thanks,

RipxLGT

Jazzy,

wasn't ticked at all about the availability/backorder (hope I didn't come off that way).

No harm, no foul. It was a question as much as anything to make sure folks were aware that although they can order, I still don't have any.

AFAIK - they should be here tomorrow, so all backorders should ship Thursday & arrive Saturday.

Still no luck with my aux-in board... any ideas?
PM me your shipping address & I'll send you a replacement board...at this point I can't think of anything else, so we'll have to try replacing that to either rule it out or hopefully solve the problem.

Grumble, grumble - the iPod cables did not show up today, so backorders won't be able to go out until Friday (and arrive Monday). Sorry everybody - they told me they were arriving today... :(

A friend was admiring jazzymt's interface in my ride and observed that their 03 Accord EX (w/ navi) has a very similar-appearing 6-cd changer/receiver/climate stack, wondered if it might work.

Any ideas?

My first impression would be that it won't work - the overseas subaru radio looks nearly identical on the outside to ours, but is made by kenwood & the internals are totally different.

The only way to really know would be to take it apart & test it. Since starting this project, I've found 4 other Subaru radio's that are directly compatible with the same mod as our 3 Legacy/Outback radios:

2004 Legacy/Outback P-128

2004-06 Baja P-131

2005-06 Impreza P-133

2003-06 Forester P-130

Btw, have had it installed for a couple of weeks now and it's great!

Not sure if anyone has done/suggested this but I bought an Audovox FM Modulator from cirucit city. (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Audiovox-FM-Modulator-FMM100A/sem/rpsm/oid/80974/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do)

This isnt one of those crappy transmitting types- it connects inline between the antenna and the indash. There is a manual switch

that you use to deactivate the antenna while using an mp3 player that plugs into this box. It requires 12v which i picked up off the back of the cigarette lighter.

You still tune the radio to a set station but there is no interferance and negligable quality loss because it is hard wired.

Great Success!! I got it working just now, but I have the volume at 40 and it sounds like its at 15. So I'm going to take apart my dash again tomorrow and make sure all the connections are tight. Thanks jazzy, you rawk. I'll send you back the old one some time within the next few days. I have a lot going on right now.

Hey guys - I got nailed hard by the flu Tuesday and have been laid up all week. Luckily, I think I was mostly caught up with all the orders & issues before my week of misery ensued - but if you needed something & I haven't followed up with ya - please email or pm me again. I'm not 100% yet, but should be recovered enough to catch up with everything this weekend.

Even if the loss is lower due to transmission, and noise is better, if it's all shielded well, you're still transmitting and using FM receiver characteristics in the head unit instead of CD, which is worse quality. But you're right, it's the best way to optimize the second best choice.

Hey all. I ordered my board a few weeks ago but only got to install it today. I did it with my cousin - a Subaru master mechanic and the reason I and my entire family own Subarus, so I had the heavy-duty backup in case.

I have a 97 Legacy LsI, but I have a P-133 6-disc changer from a 2005 Outback Sport. I wanted the board for my Sirius S-50 dock and my Microsoft Zune. I ordered the package with the wires and everything included.

The install went smoothly, not a single hitch. I installed my stereo and amp myself, so I knew how to disassemble and remove everything, so that went fine. The instructions were clear for the disassembly of the stereo, very unclear IMO for the board installation. I had to go with logic and just install it where it fit.

For the P-133, I had to drill a dime-sized hole in the heatsink near the power harness to pass the wire because the Atlona wire that came with the kit has a massive head and there was no open hole PERIOD, nevermind a hole big enough to pass it through.

I didn't take any pics, but I'll open up my console and snap some pix tomorrow. I have the GLI under my storage tray (between shifter and radio), a short rca-3.5mm wire I ordered under there, a Radio Shack female3.5 - 2 male3.5, and two 3 foot female3.5mm to male 3.5 mm attached to the splitter. One goes behind my molding to my Sirius that is mounted near my glove compartment, the other went through a hole I drilled into my storage compartment where I leave the male end for my Zune.

The Sirius is CRYSTAL CLEAR, but the bass isn't so great. The Zune pumped at full volume + the stereo at full volume yields only mediocre sound, not very loud. Any suggestions?

In a related install performed simultaneously with the board, I also purchased a cigarette lighter splitter with DUAL HEADS, very important if you're trying to hide it under molding as I was for flexibility. Click Here for example. I plugged my zune charger into one end and put that into the storage compartment, and I plugged my Sirius power into the other end and passed that through the molding to the dock. My cousin then disassembled the lighter-end and soldered the wires onto my lighter wires under the stereo. Everything is now wired for sound and powered with zero visible wires. A+ install, success...I'll let you know how the board performs in the coming weeks.

I got my Jazzy I-pod pro kit installed this weekend. I went nice and slow and finished the install without a hitch. Everything works as advertised and it sounds great (just as good as cds!). I ran it out my cubby and hooked my power source to the cigarette lighter as many others have. Now I just need to get one of the vent mounts. Thanks for the great product Jazzy!!

Has anyone seen the iPod connection in the new Audi TT? Talk about sweet. There's a small compartment in the glove box with an iPod plug at the back wall, so all you have to do is shove the unit in and control it from the stock radio. Wouldn't that be nice?

Well, I haven't seen the Audi version, but these are starting to crop up on a lot of OEM head-units now.

The built-in versions are great, they have data to/from the iPod so that it can be controlled directly from the HU. We won't get that with our Legacy's because the HU isn't capable of sending/receiving the data from the iPod. Jazzy's is about the best solution going for us. I believe Kenwood has a controller that could be hacked up, but at this point I'm happy with Jazzy's board and having the iPod on the pax seat or in the cup holder.

Ah, I can only dream about seamless iPod connectivity. Maybe in my 2015 Legacy. Of course, by then the iPod will just stream a pure digital content by RF and all radios will have the RF decoder builtin...

I have a jazzy board for sale. Since I installed an aftermarket headunit, I no longer need mine. Works fine and was only used for 3 months. PM if interested. Board and 2 in. ribbon cable only as I cannot seem to find the silent CD (still looking though). $30 and it's yours.

The bass must be a function of either Sirius or the player. My XM unit has exactly the opposite problem - they overmodulate the bass on most of the channels & it's negatively set on my headunit.

The Zune being quiet is because you're using the headphone output. Headphone voltage levels are significantly lower than the line level audio signal the internal CD changer provides, so you're going to have to crank the volume to get it loud enough to hear.

You have a couple of options to help with that though - one is to get a Zune dock that provides a line level out. Since the Zune is so new, there's not many options out there, but a quick search found this from Belkin. I'm sure by summer there will probably be quite a few more things out there for it.

Option number 2 is to get a pre-amp to boost the headphone signal coming from the Zune - it could also be used to boost the bass from your Sirius receiver. PAC audio makes a couple of them & I'm sure there's other ones available out there too.

The last thing that may be causing you problems is if you're connecting the Sirius unit and your Zune together at the same time, one may be drawing the signal down of the other...

Well, I tooled with the tone functions a bit, and the "Middle" function turned up to +2 or +3 seems to do the trick. The Sirius sounds about perfect with it turned up, and the Zune seems to be much louder, and close to CD quality.

Should I expect the board to diminish my normal CD playing quality or loudness in any way, or should it sound the same as before the board was installed?

The CD player should be the same as before...

Well, it does for the most part....on one new CD it sounded a bit "electrified" or something, but I think it was a bad copy because the rest of the CDs don't sound like that....I just got curious if it was the board or CD cause both were new and the CD was actually retail, but evidently just a shitty press or something.
