Hi Dan -- that looks great. I have been thinking about covering those exact two pieces on my Legacy, since one of them is scuffed/scratched. Can you give me a few pointers?

-Did you sand off the silver paint before applying the vinyl, or just stick the vinyl on top of the paint?

-Did you have to cut an L-shaped piece of vinyl, or did you use a straight strip and it just conformed to the shape of the plastic? I'm worried about the vinyl "bunching up" in the bend of the trim.

-I assume you removed the trim, covered it, and then re-installed it?

As far as where else to put the carbon fiber, I will probably just do a little bit on the door trim. The LGT here has fake wood on some of the interior trim pieces, and I will probably use the vinyl in the same places so that it will have a conservative/understated look to it. There are some people who have done some nice-looking CF around the cubby and vents, but I know I don't have the skill to make that look right. ;)

Hi, i just cut a section long enough to cover the length of the piece of trim and wide enough to cover the panel when it lying on its side. This stuff is very easy to work with, when you heat it up its very flexible and can stretch around any corner, i could have save a bit of vinyl if i cut it to shape a bit differently but i didnt want to be left short, you can always cut off the extra!

I didnt sand the panel at all, but i did remove it from the car and did it from the comfort of my couch with a few beers! Did the door handles in work today:

might try the hood scoop tonight! I was thinking about doing the air vents too , but i dont know if my hands are steady enough to make the cuts! Will update more if i do! Good luck with it and post up some pictures when your done!

they look sweet dan,how long did it take u to do everything, how much did it cost for the vinyl

Its handy enough to do John i think for all four pieces it took max 2 hours , doing stuff in between, easier if you remove the parts and door it indoors on the couch or something with a 6 pack! i only got a 12" x 48" length and have done 2 door handles and the other 2 bits and i am attempting the bonnet scoop as we speak! You can drop over now if you want to see it going on!

@ gMoe only saw other threads after i posted this! How much did you need to do the centre console? how did you manage to do the drink cup holder cover since when you slide it back it bends ? or is yours different?

just made a first attempt at doing the bonnet scoop, i didn't have enough left to do it properly so i'll need to re-do it when i get some more. Most people wouldn't notice but you can see the mistakes close up! I measured out a piece the width of the scoop but that was wrong you need to measure it by placing vinyl into scoop and wrap over the back and front of insert, probably twice as much as i used:

Will add a picture of it fitted when i was the car tomorrow

pm sent John :)

well i dont have a steady hand buy any means, so i would say its fairly easy for any DIY enthusiast! I would advise a 6 pack at most though and no Call of Duty: modern warfare 2 in between as that causes you to whack up the temperature on the heat gun to full by mistake and damage the vinyl a bit!

I am ordering more tomorrow so ill re-do scoop do some more subtle pieces. i got the 4 interior door handles, headunit surrounds and scoop done out of a 30 dollar piece so, it ain't too bad if you mess up, just heat it up pull it off and start again, its when you make cuts in the wrong places after applying it the wrong way is the only way you can mess up really! Give it a go!

Nice work! I have a bit of the film sitting downstairs waiting for me to get some spare time. I'll be doing the scoop too since I saw your result! Should match nice with the CF eyelines and Mirror covers. Now to decide just how far to go on the interior...

Does anyone know how to get the cover around the 5EAT shifter out without breaking it?
