2005 legacy gt problems? Should I buy car

Recommended Posts

New to the forum. I can buy a 2005 legacy gt premium 5speed with 75k. Car is in great shape but was towed into my dealership as a trade. Leaks a lot of oil from turbo area smokes and loud rattle from turbo area. Heard a lot about these cars and the turbo problems. Long story short I can buy it for 3500. Worth it? And what turbo should I get ? Or other problems thank you in advance.

Expect to replace the entire block and turbo. If you don't you're lucky.

Sounds like the turbo spun a bearing and threw metal into the motor. Clutch if not recently changed would need replacing.

That $3500 purchase will likely take another $5k to get running. Not a bad buy if everything else is solid.

The above is correct, except I would budget $5-7k for repairs unless you plan on doing a good bit yourself. Also, when you have the block out and what not you'll just want to replace the clutch while you're in there anyway.

Not currently in stock :(
