300ZX on a 200-2005 Legacy

Hello,

As I searched 300zx and nothing came up I still would like an answer with proof.

Would 300ZX (calipers and rotors) work on a 2000-2005 Legacy?

I heard rumor they would and Checker Oreilly said yes also.

Is this is true, would I need any other parts (other than stainless line F/R and 17in rims)?

Could you run 16in on these?

This should be a big plus in stopping power too (if I am correct) given a good set of tires.

I have had this question answered on other forums generally but would like to hear from those that own the car or have tried it or have proof and info.

Thank you,

Former wrx owner, future legacy owner.

The 300ZX uses 5x114.3 BCP unlike the Legacy 5x100BCP so the rotors won;t fit. The calipers are entirely different as well (very similar to the Subaru-badged 4 pots) and are available in aluminum and cast iron.

Short answer is I don't think anyting will cross over.

Someone on here had some pictures of a swap with z32 calipers and Legacy rotors on all corners. The rotor to caliper backspacing was different so they used adapter plates to mount the calipers in the correct plane. Not sure how z32 rotors would sit (backspace wise) once they were redrilled to 5x100 to fit the hub. There's also the e-brake pad bore to think about.

In order to get the 300zx calipers and rotors to work you would need to do a great deal of machining. The only direct bolt ons for the LGT fronts are:

STi Brembos

FHI 4-pots

The FHI 4-pots are actually a DOWNGRADE in terms of braking power as the rotors are significantly smaller. I would caution anyone from putting these on. If you get in an accident your insurance will use anything to get out of paying the claim, and it would be a pretty good argument for them to say "well the owner put on rotors that were SMALLER than the OEM size rotors"

AZP installs:

Can you post sizes.

Would a 2003 Legacy L wagon have to down size rotors?

The car would be a non GT model (as of now), so it should be an upgrade.

Going from Legacy L to GT rotors then going to 4 pots of a twin turbo should be an upgrade.

As I don't own the car yet but should in less than a month, If someone can post E brake numbers it is more helpful than just saying it won't work......

It has been done and rallying companies I heard do it so if it decreasing braking performance why would a they do it to a rally car?

I am just asking for hard information and numbers.

Checker O'Rielly says it will fit so this has to come from something (hollander manual maybe)....

Thank you

The reason if any for going with the FHI 4-pots on a purpose built rally car would be to run a smaller diameter wheel/tire or to run a particular rally tire. However on a purpose built race car one is not using street grade brake pads, so while there may be a decrease in the rotor's ability to dissipate heat (due to the smaller size), it is compensated for by race brake pads which would deal with the heat better than a streetable brake pad.

You didn't mention that it was a 00-04 Legacy but for comparisons I'll post up the rotor sizes for a few different subies:

02 LGT: 293.5

02 L L: 276.8

02-07 WRX (2pot or 4pot same rotor): 293.5

06 L L: 296

06 LGT: 316.5

04-Present STi: 326

As for the 300zx rotors and calipers fitting, the offset and the lug pattern are different.

The mounting points on the knuckles are different.

We've been racing subaru's in road racing since 2000 before there were event turbo subies sold here. We were looking for every brake option out there. We even bought 300zx calipers and attempted to make them fit, and with a good machinist we could have but it was not cost effective compared to the FHI 4-pots or later the STi Brembos.

So for an 00-04 Legacy L yes the FHI 4-pots would be an upgrade. For an 00-04 GT it only adds the 4-pot v. 2-pot calipers, the rotors are actually the same part number. Your best bet might be to go with a 05-09 LGT take off set of calipers and rotors as that will give you the best bang for the buck.

Mike (AZPinstalls)

Thanks for the info.

I am told 00-04 will work with the LGT rotors with the adapter for the caliper that I have seen sold.

Mike does this link and info make sense:

http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/cheap-4potsi-151771.html?t=151771

This is what I am going off of.

The other question is what rims will I need if the above link works out.

Will it clear Impreza RS rims as they have a 53mm offset? or are there 16 inch rims that will fit.

Are spacers required? THIS IS A MAJOR QUESTION.

Will the E-brake work with a Legacy rotor?

The goal is the 300zx calipers (r32 aluminum) and 16 inch rims.

I read through to the nasioc part. Seems legit, you may want to direct your questions to the guy selling them. Only downside is that it is $300+ for the brackets.

True.

I was going to buy the bracket, and calipers and do see what happens fitment wise over rims then get rotors and all the rest.

I figure I am only losing 200 bucks at most as I resell everything and if it works I will post a article online of the ordeal and if it doesn't work I will do the same.

what is the rotor bolt pattern on 00-04 legacy?
